Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

We can't beat everyone 3-4 nil. In tight games it can be decided on the refs decision-making. Yesterday the officials "missed" two straightforward calls and possibly another, the studs up on Grealish.
Looking back now in hindsight, I now realise how awful the officiating of the game was both from the Ref and Var.
However, that does not excuse the 1st half performance where as bad as we were, we should have been level at HT

Woke up and still frustrated we couldn’t beat Southampton! That team we had out last night would be able to attempt to win the champions league yet we toiled against them for quite a bit of the game?! Better second half but expected a better performance in a 5:30pm kick off. Fingers crossed paddy looks after us with palace

I watched the Everton v Villa game this lunch time and the ref Craig Pawson booked the Villa goalkeeper for time wasting. Never seems to apply that rule when he refs us at the Etihad.
I just burst out laughing when he booked him.
The ref should be allowed to give an indirect free kick instead. The booking is pointless, just wastes more time and doesn't benefit the opponent at at all. Nobody is getting sent off for a 2nd booking for time wasting.

Tbf, it was coming: poor 1st half vs Newcastle, poor 2nd half vs Leicester, a bit average vs Brentford, average vs Arsenal...The Christmas schedule plus injuries and Covid have taken their toll on the team, we've lost a bit of form and don't start games as strongly as earlier in the season. We were excellent for 30 minutes in the 2nd half, but this time it wasn't enough to win.

But it's not necessary to be in top form in January/February. That was the case last season and we couldn't finish the season strongly enough. Let's hope this season we'll be at our very best in April and May.

The first was, and their player might have touched the ball too, but the second challenge was inside, and he didn't touch the ball, and kicked Kev's leg, it was clear on the replays, but they only seem to have looked at the first one conveniently.
If they deemed the first challenge as a foul outside the box then the VAR got it right, no penalty. The VAR isn't allowed to recommend a free kick, its for penalty decisions only.

I know Laporte scored but I think we need to move back to the Stones Dias partnership of last season, get the clean sheets back against the smaller sides away from home.

We seem miles more secure down the left side with Dias playing over there
