Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

That miss by Sterling is inexcusable, had the whole of the net to aim for and bags of time at that then managed to pass it straight to the keeper. Should be fined for that and for his crapness throughout yesterday.

I know Laporte scored but I think we need to move back to the Stones Dias partnership of last season, get the clean sheets back against the smaller sides away from home.

We seem miles more secure down the left side with Dias playing over there
13 games unbeaten might suggest other wise

Yeah, I admit that Laporte's gradually turning round my assessment of him. He'll always be subject to brain farts. But that's true of Stones as well. Even the god-like Días is not totally immune to them, although they're very rare in his case, and he puts himself in a position to recover from them, as often as not. I think we're just very, very lucky to have these four centre backs, after a period that looked very rocky in that department.
Ake's not on the same level, but he looks very competent against mid to lower table opposition (I think he'll always be found out by a top quality attack). All in all, there isn't a shadow of doubt in my mind that we've currently got the best central defence in England, and probably in Europe. With our terrific keeper behind them, it's the rock on which our title challenges stand.

Even after conceding an early goal we worked our way into the game and did everything we could to win the game. Southampton clung on. City hit the woodwork 3 times and were on the wrong end of some very marginal VAR decisions.

You have to give credit to the way Southampton played. They were well organised, very well motivated and tried to retain possession whenever they could instead of just hoofing it.

Disappointing not to win but our rivals will also have games, particularly away from home where luck doesn't go their way and will they be able to fight back and control the game? We could easily have chased the game and conceded more goals against what is a good counter-attacking side. Two points lost but in this league you will have days like that.

Hopefully Delap will be back soon. Those last 10 mins was the ideal time for KDB to hit about 10 crosses in until he bags one

the odd draw now and again, southampton stuffed a draw, we where the better team and i was concerned to much about how we played, 2nd half it was business as normal and a dam good show.
how odd they looked at a penalty then didnt even get a free kick, all the excuses in the world that was shit that it was a fine line pen but no free kick, rules need changing.
had laporte done the high thigh tackle he would have been off a swear it.
excellent game laporte, the fans who give him stick dont know football, every team needs a laporte, hope he stays.

VAR probably cost us. I don’t think it was a penalty or a red card but both lengthy delays seems to either knock the wind out of us or allowed Southampton to reorganise whichever it was - we had them at sixes and sevens after our goal and until those two stops.

Fair point in the end. They scored a great goal and worked hard - hats off to them. Was a lot more entertaining than the draw at ours.

We just need to look at the southampton reaction, the media and opposition fans. They all are acting like all their Christmas’s have come at once all because city got a draw at a decent southampton side. Shows how far we are ahead of the rest and how the media and opposition regard us.
