Southampton Vs City Pre Match Discussion Thread

Don't think Navas did much against West Brom (much down to him cutting back in again and again). However I do think that he creates a certain threat in the oppositions mind even when he isn't playing well, they try to double team him which opens space up for the other players to move in. That being said he did play 90 against West Brom and 75 against Swansea so I think Milner will get the nod, also Saints are a quick team who close down amazingly well so will need a work horse I guess.

3 losses in a row and several key men out.

Regardless of that, with our best players starting we should be slapping these even with their best 11 playing.

We must play our best 11, have the right mindset (a 'must win' one) and start well preferably scoring an early goal.

Everton will slap arsenal tomorrow setting next weekend up beautifully.

I got talking to a scout from saints last week at the Swansea game. He was scribbling notes on bits of paper marked as football pitches. I asked him his observations.

He said Nasri and navas were indeisciplined hence why Swansea dominated the midfield. When Yaya goes forward he is slow to get back so saints would need to take advantage of that. He noticed our defence was slow. Probably means nothing but thought I would share it with you!!

Pretty spot on I had say. Must say not sure on the Nasri point, feel like he has done so much work all over the pitch. Navas on the other hand is always caught in two minds to which players he should mark when defending.

It will be interesting as to which team MP will put up against Southampton today, especially with the Bayern game on Tuesday. The only one sure to play will be Yaya as he is suspended for this game. Would play strongest possible team today, then get the game won then it will be time to give some of the players a rest.

And this has exactly what to do with the game?

Shall we sing for Gerry Adams against Arsenal?

Hoping we can keep the ball this season, we weren't hungry enough last year in this fixture.

Pass it well first 20 mins and we will win, if we panic, we'll drop points.

Perhaps against Arsenil we should sing for Ian Paisley instead :-)
Today at the saints we should sing for admiral nelson or uncle Albert, both fine sailors.

Tricky one today with the saints wobbling a bit,but with a few key injuries and hopefully Sergio and the beast back together I think we will edge it 2 nil

Can we sing for Leonardo Dicaprio today? we could sing "The Heart Will Go On"

Away form still scares me so I can't help but be downhearted on our chances, especially after the mad ending to West Brom where we seemed to try to loose yet again near the end.

I think we need a dominant performance, a true signal that our away troubles are over.

I've been saying this all season.

Our weakness is on the flanks, not in the middle of the park.

Some scout, navas does a huge amount of defending and covering, Zabaleta leaves himself just as exsposed as clichy or kolorov he just has better covering players in front of him

Best time to play Southampton, they're suffering a little dip in form and have several injuries to deal with. Play our strongest 11 and we should win. I'm going for 2-0.

I am sort of a bit worried about today. But I was worried about last Wednesday, I suppose.

Navas is "indisciplined in that he will often strays from his right wing position, but he is anything but lazy. I doubt anyone runs further.

The points about Yaya and the defence are true but very obvious to all - and somewhat irrelevant now that Kompany is back

City used to get 70 plus percent possession in every game. Now teams like Swansea and Spurs have had more possession at our home. This is not because Nasri and Navas are indisciplined, but because we have one less midfield numbers than last season - we now play with two out and out forwards, and at home Navas starts out wide. ffectively we have just Yaya and Fernandinho in central midfield and so are often outnumbered. If by indiscipline he means Nasri and Navas are not tucked in all the time he is right, but if they were they wouldn't be effective.

Yep - we need to become that more tightly knit unit. Filling in those spaces we leave between mids and defence requires flexibility and a work ethic from our wide players tracking and tucking in occasionally. I think we´ve seen a bit more of that recently but we´ve got to nail it. No allowing attacking mids a free run at our back four
