Last night's Spanish team gave a very average performance, yet they bettered England in almost every position on the pitch. At full strength,they'd probably have finished England off long before half time.

But for Pickford, England would have been beaten 4 or 5-1.

The best team in the tournament won it, under par, and without breaking sweat.

They were also missing Gavi.

Had a 38 year old Navas in the squad. Along with the likes of Ayoze Perez and Joselu also making up the numbers.

It was not Spain 2008-2012 vintage. Croatia dominated the ball against them in the group game.

Yet they made arguably the best group of English players (a squad that could afford to leave the likes of Grealish, Maddison, Solanke, Rashford, Sancho, Tomori and others at home) look second rate.

As neutral as they come.i am the same with my own team. You can delude yourself you are better, I choose to say what I see, rather than what I want to see. And what I saw was an overhyped team who were favourites look like they were found out from the off.

I'm pretty sure I said "on paper". On paper, man-for-man England should have a squad playing as well as Spain, but they aren't obviously. You can't possibly tell me a squad with PL's PotS, Bundesliga top scorer, La Liga's PotS isn't meant to be a good team? I've held the one holding them back is Southgate. England haven't been playing well all tournament, I think I said as much before.

Maybe you see an overrated team, I see a team with very good players wasted by a poor coach.
