Spiegel: Leaked European Super League information

just a thought does anybody else think if it does come in ,we would get league cup crowds,I for one would defo think about sacking it,it's an even worse money making scam than now, just a way of the euro also rans keeping up with the premier league cash.
It's all about the TV companies these days, as long as the viewing figures are good they will not care if the stadiums are empty.

I for one will not be attending.

Swapping one mid week set of European fixtures for another, who cares? UEFA will. If we get £440m min and aren't under the UEFA umbrella can't their FFP rules be consigned to the bin? Just have to be bothered with Premier League rules. Shame would be if those not invited to the top table can't get European football in the future.

It also wouldn't be viable for the broadcasters. They currently get to show numerous big games across multiple leagues and pull in big audiences.

But when you consolidate all the big teams into one league, you naturally whittle down the number of marketable games that take place.

Arsenal vs Liverpool, for example, isn't going to be a ratings success if they're 14th and 15th in the league.

Can only conclude that this is nothing more than a ploy to wrangle yet more concessions from UEFA and the Champions League.

Everyone would say they'd hate it, they wouldn't go rather watch my local league 2 side etc. and then the attendances wouldn't change.

I don't want it, but I've seen enough things in football fucked about by UEFA/FIFA over the years to know that despite protestations people will always stay with their clubs and top level football will always have an audience.

The reality is if the clubs are pushing for it its likely to happen.

Im in the minority, I really enjoy the champs lge matches and think the likes of Shakhtar are preferable to sides like the Burnleys, Evertons, West Hams etc however too many of these matches would devalue the product so I would not bother. That is without touching on the impact on football overall and maybe It could be getting into my 40s but Football like society is heading in a direction not of my liking.

From a City point of view, we'd have no choice but to accept it, if it was replacing the CL, the reason would be simple, the club will be part of it, and if we (fans) don't support it, then we would fairly rapidly return to being a mediocre PL (or whatever it was called after the best teams leave it) team, and all our stars would be gone, to play in the "best" league, which would not be a watered down PL.

Personally we'd all have a choice to go or not, I'd wait to see how it all stacks up before deciding, am I in favour ? No, but then I don't particularly like the format of the CL either, but I still support us in that.

I kind of agree, if there was this super league, then it would need some king of wild card element in it, if it was the same teams every year, with no element of qualification, it would quickly stagnate.

I think it would quickly stagnate. Like I said I really enjoy the games against Shakhtar but if it was more frequent and a few hundred away fans was the norm, as well as horrific travel costs it would soon lose its appeal and leave me yearning for the rivalry of fomestic football.

Then there is the damage it would do to the national associations.

Being a club now, sat at the top table and I genuinely hope we try to influence things to stay the same but I honestly doubt it.

Ancoats unfortunately the good old days of football are over and we can reminice as much as we like, but it's a corporate game now .

Yep.

I surprised it took them all this long to propose it. Essentially they've seen the way the NFL does it with a set league with no threat of relegation or risk of not being in the competition and want to copy it.
