All you people who say that psychics are bollocks just haven't been to see a genuine one.

I accept that there are a lot of bullshitters but I have communicated with the real ones.

I always ask them for a 50/1 betting tip to see if they really know what they are doing.

Out of 130 that I have seen, 128 were charlatans or bullshitters and tipped losers. But two of them gave me tips on horses that were 50/1 and 40/1 respectively, despite knowing zilch about horse racing.

What are the odds on that? Just shows that there are genuine ones out there

2/130 gave you tips on horses and you believe they have some physic powers? You've completely ruled out random chance. How many times did you return to these 2 mediums and what where the results then. Did they always get the right horse, if not what % did they get right?

I might be wrong, but I took jma's post to be a rather well constructed joke.

Perhaps i was clarkied. Wouldn't be the first time.

During the last few months, I've lost two very close people to me. One was a relative and the other a good friend. Sadly, and wrongly on my behalf, I never got the chance to tell them how much they meant to me, as they were both taken suddenly. I'm considering seeing a spiritualist to hopefully get 'in touch' with them, so I can say the things that got left unsaid. Maybe part of me wants some kind of proof that the end is not the end, and their happy in whatever place they are, part of me wants to say 'thank you for everything', and a little bit of me, thinks I'm being a dickhead. Has anyone used a spiritualist and found it a help or should I let them rest in peace and treasure the memories? Thanks.

My stepdad died when I was 16 and my mum starting going to the spiritualist church. She got a great deal of comfort from it but as far I'm concerned it was all bollocks. She was still a regular attendee right up until she died. She even played the organ for them at the services, it's not all sitting in a circle and talking to imaginary ghosts. They do actually have services and sing hymns and shit.
I even had one of their ministers conduct her funeral because that's what she wanted. Even though her own brother and his family refused to attend because of their own religious beliefs.

Although it was undoubtedly a great comfort to her at a difficult time and continued to be up until her death, it's always left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth.
I never knew my biological father and even though I classed my stepdad as my real dad, there was always the need to meet the sperm donor, just out of curiosity if nothing else.
My beef with the shysters posing as mediums is that they told her he was dead and she was convinced of the fact. She'd thought he was dead years before when he suddenly stopped paying child support after never missing a week in 12 years, and having a medium tell her too, just convinced her more. I took her at her word and put it out of my mind.
Ten years after she died I was looking at the genes reunited website and was stunned and more than a little gutted to find out he'd only recently died.
I've never blamed my mum for that but it hurt for a long time that I wasted all those years when I could have confronted him and asked him the questions that no doubt many bastards grow up wanting to know.

Sad story Stony and as a fellow bastard I feel your pain.

Made me lol, very good.

I cannot believe the amount of half baked bullshit people are coming out with on this subject when it is quite clear they havn't got a scoobies what they're on about, who ever it was who was saying the mediums are second guessing surely must be visiting the gypos on blackpool pier..
Being a medium is a gift,to be able to talk to the spirits of people isn't a fluke,in all my years going to spiritualist churches i havn't met or seen one medium who wa fake,in my opinion and from my own experiences people who get shoddy readings get them because (a) they are nervous and don't relax and have an open mind (b) the mediums are nervous and feel the nervous energy in the room...
Like i said this is just based on my personal experiences,i fully believe in life after death but i wouldn't mimic or take the piss out of someone who didn't believe the same as me which unfortunately happens on chatrooms like these..

Two points here.

1. So you've never seen a dodgy medium but fully agree that they exist? Don't you think that that is a little coincidental? By the laws of probability you should have met at least one.

2. You are suggesting that the mediums are not at fault for a bad reading, and that you must believe in it for it to work. This is exactly what the power of suggestion is. Mediums claim the ability to communicate as a fact. Gravity doesn't stop working just because you don't believe in it.

For the record, the spiritualists I tested have been wide ranging and not "some gypo on Blackpool Pier". From private sessions recommended by others to attending St Francis Spiritualist Church, at no point have I ever seen anything that doesn't fall into the classification of cold reading.

If anybody has a particularly favourite and believable medium who they are convinced can talk to dead people, then I'd be interested in their contact details. More to the point, if anyone does want an explanation and are willing to upload a recording of their session, I'd happily point out the tricks used.

Treasure the memories. "Spiritualist" or mediums are 99.9% bogus.

The figure you are looking for is 100%.

Do you realise what you're sitting on here?

You could turn the entire world of on it's head with that revelation, mate. It would be the biggest news to hit the world since the dinosoars died off. All of science and all of religion would be rendered largely redundant.

It would be the most important discovery of all time. Bigger than the wheel, more important than fire. In fact it would dwarf both of these.

You and your medium friends could become millionaires overnight. These "mediums" would become the biggest stars the world has ever seen. Bigger than Jesus. Bigger than The Beatles. Richer than God. This could bring about world peace if harnessed properly.

All you would need to do it go the one of the tabloids with the details of one of these genuine mediums and all the above would happen.

Have you never thought about that?
