How old are you?
I guess at the most 21, why feel that this is the last chance to meet a nice 'bird'? There are millions of nice ladies out there who will not use you as a mug. You need to start thinking differently, it not the be all and end all to be in a relationship however good it feels. Have a look around.
As for your none uni friends only meeting scruffs that itself is a bad view to have, do your mates know you think like this. If that was a mate of mine I not sure I would have you around, it is being a snob.

im 22 as i went to uni abit later than normal and I didnt mean it in a bad way, scruff was a poor choice of word and the ones who have girlfriends all have nice girls, im just being pessimistic.

You'll be fine, honestly. It might take a while to get yourself back to normal, but if you keep yourself busy with your friends you'll eventually come round. Right now I bet you feel as though everything has fallen on top of you, but in reality it's the start of a new era. It's the chance to rebuild your life by yourself and give you some time alone to make your own decisions for a while.
It might take a few months or over a year, but you'll find someone else. The next one is always the best one!

You think they're nice girls. Most peoples girlfriend/wife/partner are belting in brief social situations. Being with someone shows you far more, not just the good stuff. They probably aren't half as nice as you think.

Don't be moping around hoping she'll come back. Throw yourself into a new obsession - take up boxing or martial arts for example.
It will do wonders for your self confidence and you will learn to have a bit more respect for yourself and perhaps not be such a drip.
