Spurs (A) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

As I said pre-match to a fair bit of rebuttal, a stupid team selection. Gone out anyway which i couldnt care less about but 2 key injuries added to a lengthy list now aswell.

Good job the kids were the better performers on the night as they'll be playing this weekend too at this rate.

I remember when spurs played a high line against Chelsea last season, got 2 men sent off and continued with it leaving Chelsea free to have a run on their keeper time and time again. They were mocked for such amateur hour tactics, we were only marginally better than that defensively tonight. The ease in which they could be put through was incredibly concerning, it's a big problem that every manager we come up against is exploiting, it needs rectifying desperately.

Wright played well when he came on, pretty sure he's a holding midfielder though isn't he? Played everywhere but there, he impressed me in his time on the pitch more than O'Reilly did. I'd have him on the periphery ahead of O'Reilly on that performance. Simpson-pusey impressed me the most of the kids. Calm and assured on the ball whilst being progressive and defensively he was always where he needed to be. That one bit of defending where he stepped up to play solanke offside was a brilliantly executed line. Away from the kids, gvardiol top class as usual and Nunes the star of the show.

We move on now and benefit from the break in between the derby and villa games with no fixture especially as villa themselves went out tonight and will get the same break. Arsenal and dippers remain in, they might have the squad available to cope right now despite arsenals "injury crisis" with their 2 injuries, but let's see how it impacts them as the games keep coming and injuries happen.

I think he can learn FB but he needs to knuckle down. There’s a real player in there
Rico isn’t a FB Game in game out he consistently good neat and tidy his movement and positioning is superb looks like he’s been playing in this team for years
No idea why you think he needs to knuckle down

Hate this sort of thing because it was a first-team game involving City and you can not win.
Pep and City will take pelters for fielding a weakened team in the league cup tie tonight
City's only result tonight was always a loss because of injuries and protecting players.

Yes it was the first team game involving first-team players and will go down as a Spurs win and they will milk it rightly so, Skysports love nothing more than bashing City and the pundits will talk shit for an hour about this amazing win against the Champions, but this was not a first-team game Pep and City wanted or needed right now.

You feel for the fans, But I think the City players on the whole had given the fans 100%. the fans have not seen many losses in the past couple of years and many understand and will be ok with it.

I will say City going out now looks OK with the teams that are in the hat for the next round,

Gutted about the injuries but not bothered about the defeat. Thought we played quite well in the circumstances, and some of the kids showed real promise. Got to somehow get through these next three games with a threadbare squad, and hopefully get some players back after the international break.
It would help if Foden returned to last seasons form. Had another shocker..

What a bad night, gutted about the result & injuries

Pep got it wrong, he wasted Foden as CF

It seems no one have told. him that Nico used to play as a forward for the academy

Good performance from Nunes, Mcatee and the young defender who came in.

Nico needs to be loaned, he has the ingredients to be City player but needs confidence.

Rico shouldn't start against fast wingers
The problem we are having is we are still continuing to do what we do with the high press and very high backline, In which most cases we are able to play this way and get out of trouble with Kyle Walkers pace, Overall we lack pace at the back and it's notable in the absence of Walker, With Rodri being out also reading the game and winning back possession to stop counter attacks isn't helping either unfortunately.

Injuries have been a killer for us.

Pep could go back to playing Akanji in the right back position again.
