Spurs (A) - Post-Match Thread

If we are as bad as you say then why bother extending Pep's contract. Sure we aren't playing well but to say that we are beyond poor is taking the piss.
We may be two bad results away from a crisis but we are also only two good results from being right back in the mix.
Our players are human. Our bad form is dominating another megabucks team 22 shots to 4 and 66 per cent possession to 34 per cent. We're suffering as a result of a long run in the CL giving us no time off.

I really worry for KDB . In previous seasons he was like a thoroughbred choosing when to use his pace. Now he looks knackered as he tries to make up the clear deficiencies in this side. If I was his agent I'd be saying move on..

He's shit but no more shit than half the rest of them. Do you ever call them out though ? Ederson today...shit. KDB today...shit. Bernardo today...shit. Laporte today...shit. If you're dishing the shit out, make sure you spread it evenly so you don't miss any of the culprits out.
If you read my post I suggested giving Steffan a run in goal. Bernardo is struggling and I've no idea why. I guess I give him a less rough ride because since the mendy tweet he's never had a run of games. I suspect he will be the one left out on Wednesday.

Riyad has been played more than most and yes I give him a tough time because I expect more from an experienced international. I find it worrying that you can now see players not passing to him or making the runs as they feel he will not find the pass. At the end of the day it's simple, players go off form but have to at least try and do the basics, the stuff that's not glamorous. This is where he fails and why I think he's the biggest problem at the moment. Phil deserved his place today.

I don't feel good bad mouthing one of our players I really don't but a player of his class should have more than 1 goal and 1 assist in a dozen games - that is worrying form. Let's both hope for a reaction next match.

Funnily enough I was thinking exactly the same myself earlier! Nobody would be expecting it and surely it would catch the opposition off-guard.
Park the bus and use Kev to transition the ball up to our pacey forwards; bit like what Spurs do with Kane and Son.
Seems every time we are hit on the break, we concede. Therefore, playing high up the putch is our problem. Unfortunately though, we never learn!

Thought that myself for ages. From the very first ball kicked every opposition player takes up their instructed position meaning all eleven behind the ball and we pass and pass across the park without creating anything, then it is only a matter of time till the long ball hits us. If I was managing on Wythenshawe Park I would sometimes say let's try something different today. The players must be so disheartened facing these opposition tactics every week and need some inspiration. A change (tactics) is as good as a rest.

We aren't fast enough to counter anymore
Torres and Sterling will do nicely and Jesus is not exactly a slow-coach. Plus, we simply have to get another striker in ASAP and doubless that individual ' will have pace. But, i take your point.

Oh I'm seeing it the same as you believe me. All 4 spurs attacks tonight were because we were pushed to far up the pitch, and a bit of carelessness/bad positioning, and we're done every time. My mum texted me blaming Ederson, but 4 times he was put one on one with a forward and no cover to help.

That said our profligacy at the other end doesn't help either, so yes the conclusion is that we are a bit of mess.

Spot on. You can have the best defenders and keeper in the world but that high line is suicidal.

How can Spurs fans be happy with their team parking the bus and having four shots. Spurs are an ultra wealthy club, but they play in the style of a Burnley with better players. We rarely played like that in the dark days.

You've obviously forgotten the Pearce era.

Fan's are only interested in winning. If they play great football as well that's the icing on the cake but do you think Spurs fans are worried about that tonight sitting on top of the table after beating us 2-0? Are they fuck, they will be wanking about a Mourhino masterclass and dreaming of the title come May.

We basically need to go on a 5 /6 match winning run as of now to build any belief that we can compete this season. I don’t see it personally.

We need a blue back around the club, in the shape of Vinny Kompany.
In any capacity/role, he would rally the players out of this boring predictable slumber that has descended apon the club.
Why havn't we kicked on after the case with UEFA.
Its like watching Tiger Woods play golf against the new stylists.
We look old hat and i can't see a 33 yr old Aguero making much of a difference at the moment.

Well has our defence significantly improved since his arrival
I think our central pairing is much better, but as an overall unit is suffers because of the system we play, as aptly demonstrated today.
With a different system, i think our defensive problems would be much reduced. Still the nagging LB problem though.

The thing is when it was working everybody bought into it because they could see the results and success. Now we've been sussed a bit and it's not working doubts set in. He can scream and shout as much as he likes on the training ground but deep down they'll be thinking, " Yeah of course you're right mate, well it didn't work when Leicester hammered us or when.a poor Tottenham .beat us. Or when West Ham and Leeds held us." They will think like the fans are thinking you can bet on that, that we've been sussed and the tactics aren't working. Now he either wins them around quickly and things change, or it's a slippery slope from here.

I have come to the conclusion(did last season in fairness) that Pep will make a very good team, a title challenging team even better, that’s his quality. He will break records with teams like Barca, Bayern and us when the players at his disposal are top notch.

Give him players not quite at that level however not only can he not make them do better than what would be expected he makes them poorer. With a certain team Pep should be anyone’s first choice outside of that he is quite poor. I firmly believe it’s not mission impossible to get this squad last season and this to perform better than he has.

So do we spend huge amounts? Can we afford to? Are the players Pep needs out there and gettable and within time? Or do we employ someone who could do a better job by simply not being bogged down with his ideology of how the game should be played?

I understand the Loyalty for Pep from some supporters but my loyalty is with the club. The powers that be seem to have made their mind up anyhow. So whether you think he is the dogs bollocks or only great in preferable scenarios we are all along for the ride.

indeed. To be honest, as I can’t go to the game at the min, I personally don’t give a fuck how we play as long as we win. I was delighted we beat Arsenal when we were very very average. The performance didn’t bother me at all
