Spurs (A) | Post-Match Thread

£18m-valued Mendy (Transfermarkt) was chosen to start on the left side of the back four, but it was a decision which backfired from Pep Guardiola. The France international did not look comfortable, losing ten of his 14 duels, being dribbled past four times, losing the ball on 16 occasions and finding a team-mate with just one of his nine crosses (Sofascore).
These are VERY sobering statistics. :-|

I agree on the point Pep should not bring up much in next few pressers how squad is not ready yet, not fit yet, not in form yet. Can give lot of players a false belief and a good excuse for being shit in first 3 months and not do 120% o trainings to get into shape and form asap.
One reason they aren't ready is the decision to allow an extra week off for the English and Brazilian players who were involved in internationals hopefully this will pay off later in season.

My Son is a Clinical Physiotherapist & strength & conditioning coach at Regional Athletics Arena. He also has a private practice with several clients from City & ManUre.

I was talking to him about this yesterday & he agreed that Pep's selection might have been in part to do with match fitness, but he thought it was more to do with giving a chance to those who played during pre-season to prove themselves, which is more than fair.

Now whether this was the match to do so is another matter, however when it was becoming abundantly clear that Mendy was struggling badly, Mahrez was fading & Sterling was becoming less & less effective, changes should have been made earlier.

Are you seriously suggesting KDB & Zin only had 15 minutes in them, & couldn't have been introduced on 55-60 minutes in when it was obvious we were struggling to change the direction the match was going in?

It doesn't take a medical expert to see what was happening yesterday & what needed to happen to change the course of the match. It's funny how I could see how predictably this match was panning out, but our "Medical Experts" (whoever they were on the day), couldn't.

As I said earlier, when you need to start worrying is when Guardiola & his team are deemed above criticism & are perceived to be incapable of doing wrong as you're curiously suggesting if I'm not mistaken. :-|
I agree changes should have been made much earlier e.g., Jesus. Not sure about KDB as he reported back to training with pain in his ankle and has not been in full training.

Pep's tactics are not beyond criticism but there's no point trying to 2nd guess fitness and capabilities of players returning from injury.

We've managed to put Jesus under massive scrutiny and doubt over the last 2-3 months.

Mate, I had a feeling of foreboding from when I saw the team sheet. I had the same feeling with the Derby against ManUre, our matches against Leeds in the Prem, Chelsea in the FA Cup Semis & again against Chelsea in the CL Final.

I've no idea where you were hiding, but SEVERAL City fans & many pundits were crapping themselves that Pep would have a brainfart in the CL Final, overthink it & contribute massively to us losing, which is exactly what happened.

Pep has form for trying to pull off the spectacularly unexpected, which in recent times has tended to blow up in his face. It's simple. With three subs allowed we should have started our strongest available team & rotated when necessary.

It's about opinions. I respect yours, but I also respectfully disagree with it. This is the second season running that we've heard the same excuses about us being too tired & not being ready for the season.

Pep talked about it so much, it's as if we talked ourselves into last year's early season malaise. As they say, if you repeat something often enough, people begin to believe, so how about looking at Pep's constant downer on our preparedness for last season as a reason for our early season form?

Like I said, I don't want any other manager apart from Pep, but he's made some really strange & baffling decisions in his time here, so therefore in my opinion he shouldn't be above our criticism. This is why I don't get why you've intimated that none of us are qualified enough to analyse & criticise Pep's decisions.

He's Josep Guardiola, NOT God Almighty.... :-|
At the end of the day, Pep is here to make decisions. Not everyone is perfect, he has access to information that none of us do and if he feels like he needs to play X instead of Y then that is on his head.

Its not simple at all, lets say we start with KDB and he pulls up after 20mins. Then what would you say? "Oh well, at least he started with him".
Would you fuck, this forum would be in meltdown for playing someone whos clearly not 100%.

If Pep is making "strange and baffling decisions" what is the rest of the world doing because 99% of the time we see Pep make them look stupid.

Despite the so called "brainfarts", if we had a decent striker we would have beat Leeds and Chelsea. We would have won yesterday also.

on the money .

How can you disagree, Pep obviously prefers both Cancelo and Zinchenko to Mendy at left back. Only Pep knows their fitness, and will have decided based on tha

@SkySportsStatto
Man City's last 3 PL visits to @SpursOfficial
59 shots
15 on target
0 goals

Fucking hell, 60 shots for no goals vs spurs away last 3 times. I want to see training videos where I see Jesus, Mahrez, Sterling etc doing nothing else but shooting practices for hours with defenders front of them, with keeper and some even without defenders and keeper just on blank empty goals ffs.
In training all they do is pass the ball in circles and have a laugh, then off to town on the piss ;-)

Last sentence is very debatable.
