Spurs (A) | Post-Match Thread

No money is not the only judge but you are talking like Mendy and Ake are League 2 players not up to the standard of a premier league game. If they aren't capable of playing against spuds who barely finished top 10 last year then its a huge fucking problem and we can't sit here and moan of how we didnt have Stones or KDB out there. What if they both break their leg next week and never play again. Fucking nonsense.

Was a shite performance. End of.

In fact, I seem to remember KDB, Zinchenko and Stones playing against spurs last year, how did that go? Oh yeah, we lost.
So if the money we paid for our players is no indicator of how good our team should perform, why are you mentioning money? :-|

As I said in my very first post in this thread, I have defended Mendy & believed he just needed to get fit, regain his match fitness & be given a proper chance to prove his worth.

However, after losing the ball for the THIRD time in the first half, which immediately put us under pressure, even my patience was wearing thin. Then seeing him struggle with pace to get back & avenge his mistakes, I then had to question what use he was to us. Becoming totally deflated with him happened when I saw him being repeatedly twisted inside out when defending.

In the plus side he did put in a 2 - 3 menacing crosses into the box, & there was the one sweet as fuck crossfield pass to Mahrez which was sublime, but when you weigh up what is expected from to £40m-£50m defender, Mendy fell way short. It's now at the point where even I'm struggling to find plus points to playing him.

Personally, I don't think yesterday's defence had much to do with the match fitness of the returning players, I think it was more to do with Pep wanting to keep faith with the defence who played the majority of pre-season. However, Spurs away in the PL is a totally different proposition to Preston & Barnsley at CFA in pre-season friendlies.

That would be an assessment for Pep and City's medical experts.

It really is quite simple, he was deemed fit enough to play a for a limited time if absolutely necessary but not for long enough that they wanted to risk starting him or only playing him for a short time from the start.

They took a risk bringing him on and we will have to hope that in doing so they have not set him back because that would be a misjudgment. However, whilst there may be some uncertainty about whether or not he should come on for the last 15 minutes; there's substantially less about whether it made sense to start him: it didn't.
My Son is a Clinical Physiotherapist & strength & conditioning coach at Regional Athletics Arena. He also has a private practice with several clients from City & ManUre.

I was talking to him about this yesterday & he agreed that Pep's selection might have been in part to do with match fitness, but he thought it was more to do with giving a chance to those who played during pre-season to prove themselves, which is more than fair.

Now whether this was the match to do so is another matter, however when it was becoming abundantly clear that Mendy was struggling badly, Mahrez was fading & Sterling was becoming less & less effective, changes should have been made earlier.

Are you seriously suggesting KDB & Zin only had 15 minutes in them, & couldn't have been introduced on 55-60 minutes in when it was obvious we were struggling to change the direction the match was going in?

It doesn't take a medical expert to see what was happening yesterday & what needed to happen to change the course of the match. It's funny how I could see how predictably this match was panning out, but our "Medical Experts" (whoever they were on the day), couldn't.

As I said earlier, when you need to start worrying is when Guardiola & his team are deemed above criticism & are perceived to be incapable of doing wrong as you're curiously suggesting if I'm not mistaken. :-|

These threads are the route to madness mate. Duck out, let them talk ill-informed shit to each other about playing strongest teams and respecting the badge and putting effort in and all that other fan nonsense.

It's always worth coming back to the threads at the end of the season just to shine a light on the worst. The ignoramus you're in "debate" with here has form.
And there's no bigger ignoramus than the one calling others an ignoramus.

Now we agreed to stay away from each other after your failed, laughable football analysis regarding your Audrey Roberts lookalike love interest.

That alone proves the sum total of your football knowledge, so please do us all a favour & do one you brain dead plank. History proved those who knew what they were talking about, as opposed to who talked & continues to talk out of their arses. :-|

This is how I feel like we set up yesterday with the ball. Mendy, Grealish and Sterling all on top of each other. Gündy isolated in midfield when we had the ball, Fernandinho isolated when we lost the ball. Big gap behind Fernandinho to the central defenders, especially Aké who seems less comfortable defending on the front foot than our other three centre backs.

Ouch! Bit harsh mate

Tried to steer clear of the press waffle after yesterday but I'm fucking gobsmacked to read about Tananga's 'dominant' display.

Just for clarity, being dominant these days is being given carte blanche to kick fuck out of the opponent with no repercussions. Embarrassing punditry.

That was absolutely appalling referreing from Taylor, giving him licence to commit foul after foul, then having a word the 4th time, disgraceful. Then needless to say, Grealish booked for his first foul, unbelievably biased shite
