Spurs (a) - pre-match thread

For me, this falls into the 'must not lose' category. Spurs have already drawn with Liverpool and Everton in the league, so if we walk away with a point on Sunday, one of our closest challengers will have dropped six from twenty-one.

I'd take a point. Spurs will be up there this season.

We get a break then. Get players back, and go again.

I have just had a look on Spurs fan forum, they are confident of victory for two reasons -: 1- KDB is out, they consider him our best this season and
2- We have not beaten a top side yet, apparently the average league position of teams beaten by City is 15th. Just thought it interesting to see the other view.
I am going for City 2-1, they do not normally score a lot of goals at home without Kane, I believe their style is more suite to away games, that's from what I have seen so far.

Wow the press, pundit and sports presenter brigade are GAGGING for City to lose this one. Very very few - if any - going for a City win. Did they not see how lucky Celtic were....
9 chanes with 3 on target to City's 20 chances with 9 on target...

That takes the pressure off us a bit though in truth, it's a game we can afford to lose in many ways... it's not going to be a shock if we lose or that they can make much of(even though they will probably still claim it's a big shock front page news), we'll still be top of the table and it's not a place where many teams will bag points this season either.

The main worry is the ref for me, I say we are playing far better football than Spurs, more dominating and better on the ball so if they are going to take points they are going to have to work their socks off and probably left knackered for their next game.

I completely agree. I actually feel very relaxed going into this game because I think we can afford to lose. That makes Everton H an important game but we can deal with that when it comes. I think that lack of 'must win' pressure, and the removal of the "Can City break the record vs Spurs" means that we'll play very well. I do think they'll press high, but I think we'll be expecting it and the midfield movement behind that press will exploit that space. It could go either way, but I'm quietly confident we'll come away with a point, minimum.

Forgot to mention the ref at first that's the main worry and we need to start being more vocal at refs as fans since the players can't as much anymore, that's the one thing we can't control but they should hear it big time if they're screwing us over(I'm still mad about last season regarding the Spurs games personally and it's not often I remember games in this way). We are too passive as fans imo at City, the way people reacted to Agueros elbow made a shit storm and they got what they wanted... when have we ever been heard like that?

not overly dissimilar to the build up to the game at the swamp.
fuck 'em!
win, lose or draw, we've only just begun our journey under guardiola.
jealous rhetoric won't stop us.

Definitely a game we can afford to lose given how early on in the season it is but winning this would be huge for us. Make no mistake, Spurs will be up there this season. Their squad isn't at our level but their manager is the best young manager around and has them extremely well drilled and they're tailor made to play against a side like us. Big test for Pep this. Hopefully he'll see he can't just go gung ho against everyone and Fernando will start to give us some much needed protection. Could be aa reality check for us this as i still think we're a bit off yet from being able to go to the top sides and dominate

I hate to say it(because I don't like Spurs ha) but I do like Pochettino and I was surprised how he wasn't mentioned as much at the start of the season when they were bigging up the Prems big name managers, personally think he's outdone Klopp so far in this league with both his clubs. Future England manager maybe too if you believe the press talk? I'd take him over Wenger any day.

He's only 1 year younger than Pep, mind you. So he's not THE best around.

I don't buy this we can afford to lose notion. I think losing can have demoralising affect. Given that we all think the press, the world and his wife are against us, can you imagine headlines if we lose- "Pep fails his first test" "City fail against top four team again" "First time they play top side they lose" etc, etc. No whilst losing would not be a disaster points wise, ramifications re morale could be bad :-)

To be fair to him, they are a very good team and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we lose on Sunday for that exact reason. That said, I still think we're favourites after their poor showings against Liverpool, Everton and Sunderland (Sunderland!) not to mention in the Champions League.

However, people underestimate Guardiola entirely when they say you can beat his teams by pressing. What makes him the best manager in the world is his ability to identify what isn't working and change it quickly. If people do start beating us by pressing, after a week he'll have changed his game plan so that it won't work any more. They're thinking of Mourinho, or Wenger, who like to do the same thing every game whoever they're against. Come to think of it, most sports journalists have probably forgotten it's possible for a team to have more than one tactical style.

EDIT: I've just looked at Tottenham's results for teh season and it's left me feeling much more optimistic about the game. Bar the 4-0 at an awful Stoke (who we also put four past, let's not forget) and a 5-0 thrashing of a League One team (God forbid we would ever get a cup draw against a non-premier league team) they've not looked great. 9 goals in their other 7 games. Most of their best play recently has come from Son, stop him and we have a very good chance. We've managed 3 goals a game this season to their 2, so this game will likely hinge on the performance of our defence. On the plus side, Kane's injured and Janssen has been shite.

Spot on mate

I never want to lose but this is our 4th away game in a row so we need to be cautious. I would love all 3 points but 1 ain't the end of the world. I'm still going for a city win though.

I know exactly what you mean, but I really want to win this one, puts down a marker beating Spurs, it would be their first defeat and end all this flat track bully stuff.
By the way, I see south east Spain on you description, I used to live in monovar, just inland from Alicante.
