Spurs (H) 2nd Leg - Post Match Thread

Gutted - what a game;

Thought we played so much great football but one shout out to their star over the two legs and their tie winner - we were beaten by
“The Son Heung-min team”

Great effort by the lads.
And supporters.
Bit unlucky.
But fucking proud to be blue.
Seasons is now 5 league games.
And a cup final.
Win all 6 and it's our best ever season.
Weve got brilliant players.
A brilliant manage.
Yes people make mistakes.
But.
Pep plays the best football I've ever seen.
Come on blues one last push.

I’ve just seen their goal. He scored with his arm! I thought so at the time but assumed I was wrong because VAR let it stand!

Fantastic game last night but the manner of how we lost really hit the players hard you could see that, I just hope they can pick themselves up for Saturday because we need to win. What damaged us last night more than anything was the 1st leg and Peps team selection on that day (playing Delph who made the mistake and Mahrez) clearly he was thinking of the next league game which we won so it was justified I guess. The reality is you cannot underestimate the power of the away goals rule although I feel that it should be scrapped just like golden goal was because lets face it its unfair. 4-4 on aggregate says we play ET.

Laporte had a shocker last night and Ederson didn't play great either, perhaps because he could see that Laporte was having a wobble I don't know.

There was one criticism I have of Pep last night and that was he brought Fernandinho on too soon when we had the attacking momentum, he should have waited for another goal before making that change in my opinion.

VAR worked well up until the offside call, Llorente' goal was fine it did hit his arm but wasn't deliberate and was in a natural position so I don't think we can argue that one, the ref communicated well with the viewers both in the stadium and at home and we could see him reviewing it on the touchline. When it came to the offside I don't know what happened, he never reviewed it himself, BT never showed the replay either and watching it now its dodgy. Eriksen plays it into Berno and it hits his ankles and loops up into Aguero's path, is that offside? Berno didn't exactly play it to Aguero I know he's good but come on, the last clear touch came from a Spurs player. What exactly is the rule on ricochets?

OK, although it's already been said several times on here,
Poor selection - Fern & Sane should have started for Silva & Gundogan both of whom were ineffective
Poor performance - Big mistakes from Laporte and below par performances from Eddy, Mendy and, despite his goal, Aguero.
Poor first leg - The missed penalty and our lack of finishing also cost us dear and although we scored 4 goals last night it should have been more.

VAR made the correct call, his arm was in a natural position and he didn't move his arm towards the ball. Would it have gone in if it didn't hit is arm though? maybe not the fact it hit his arm probably helped direct it goalwards but it did come off his hip last. For me VAR made the correct decision but I do think they got it wrong with the offside and the ref should have taken a look himself which he didn't. No consistency again.

Just shows how difficult it is. I think he pulls his arm towards his body and away from the ball but many would agree with you.

I’ve drawn a line following the angle of the grass and get Agueros ankle level with the Spurs defender but nobody agrees with me! It depends on where you view it from but the stills show level for me and he should have been given the doubt. Not one player appealed.

I think this highlights the issue with VAR, the angles they chose to use, the ‘line’ they draw etc.

I also think the ‘thought process’ the officials in the VAR box use should be broadcast. They should supplement this by explaining which law(s) they are using to form their decision and the decision should be a ‘majority’ one made by a panel of 3.

IF they’re going to use it, at least do it properly and transparently.

However, if it were my choice I’d fuck it off.

It very clearly takes the emotion out of the game. It will get to a point where the crowd will be forced to stifle their automatic response to ‘go mad’ when a goal goes in, and have to ‘wait’ for VAR to say ok crack on and celebrate now.

Dangerous that imo. It takes the essence and excitement out of the game.

Last night was on a par with the Hamburg game in terms of excitement and atmosphere but unfortunately coming up just short again. I can't bring myself to watch the VAR decisions as it makes no difference now but conceding three goals was always going to make it tough. Laporte chose last night to have his worst ever game and as well as being at fault for the first goal, Ederson should have easily caught the ball from the first corner rather than gift Spurs another one from which they scored their third. This level of defending generally won't win you the CL.

The question now is can the players lift themselves to win the next five games? I think they can and if we win the League it will be a great season. Add the FA Cup and it will be a fantastic season.

I’ve had to wait until today to post because I was so gutted last night. I won’t be saying anything that others haven’t already but I do find it strangely cathartic. I thought the handball goal should have been disallowed. We were, however, architects of our own downfall. Normally totally reliable players had brain farts (Kun with the penalty miss and Laporte) and Spurs were sharp enough to punish us. Our attack was superb, unplayable at times. Our defence not so good (though I thought Walker was terrific). Onwards and upwards, we still have lots to play for.

You thinking Aguero was bad last night shows how much you know. Fuck me, just noticed your Gundogan comment too. Try another sport, petal.

I have watched our team for over 50 years and yes I agree with you I certainly don't look that old. Looking back on last night's match, I can quite honestly say, that is most likely THE best football match I have ever watched, live, and even on TV. I am shattered not just at the result but at the sheer emotions we went through and to know even with that performance, we did not go through. Remember where we were just 20 years ago, I am so proud to be blue, I am so proud to say I am a city fan, after all we have been through together, this was not to be. We have an incredible team and an absolute deity for a manager, we will come strong in these next few games, and yes, I am not a lover of the champs league, but last night, my admiration and love for our blues just went off the Richter scale. So, keep the faith, keep doing what we always do, dust off, stand up proud and enjoy the ride..CTID.

Frustrating thing about VAR is that every goal will go to review. Imagine the Aguero moment in 2012 where the whole stadium will have to stop while we wait for a decision. When I thought we had the winner I was dancing round the room and we have to learn that we can’t do that any more - which in my opinion is a loss for the game.

On another note I have never ever heard such poor impartial commentary from Jenas last night. It was like watching Tottenham TV. I’ve noticed news articles complaining already - it was fucking embarrassing. If you can’t be impartial don’t do the fucking job

Ok we lost the war but we won the battle. They didn't beat us at ours and they won't on Saturday. Come on boy's let's get the domestic treble!!!
