Spurs (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Weird PL this year with so many of the big 6 out of sorts for one reason or another and the World Cup disrupting the season . We are still bang there and have to play Arsenal twice . Only half way through the season aswell I think a lot of people have got lost in media hype and how long a season actually is .

People like you were saying that in the 70s with an ageing Bell, lee, Sumerbee etc and look what happened then.

Has KDB got any gas left in his tank? Has he still got the desire and hunger?

Has Foden's huge new contract taken away his hunger or is it simply a case of a younger player and a dip in form?

Does Bernardo, Cancelo, Laporte, Gundo still want to be at the club?

Serious questions that need answers and if you want to bury your head in the sand, good luck
You have to remember that we're on our 3rd title in a row this year. The hunger maybe just isn't quite there compared to before. Arsenal are going to have the momentum as they're going to play every game like it's a title winner. We're meanwhile very likely to drop more points just because it's one of those blip seasons, look at Chelsea and Liverpool.

This is why though it probably makes sense for Pep to keep playing the new lads like Alvarez, Haaland and Lewis, because they're going to be hungry to play and win. It's mental to think that none of these 3 are over 22.

Neville and everyone else were wrong last night to say that we need to bring on KDB, Foden etc at half time as they're not all fit and whether they can be arsed or not is another matter. Had he done that and I think we would of lost last night.

They'll come good, especially when the Champions League comes back as that's the one they want. Mahrez was rubbish at the start of the year but now alongside Rodri he's our best player by a mile.

Funny, but don't seem a bad pair of lads tbh. There's an Irish Lpool fan who does this type of match broadcast who probably would of burst if that had happened to his team.

I have an Everton supporting mate and his only joy at the moment is thriving on the schadenfreude from that guy's youtube & TikTok updates.

I have never looked back at a match-day thread but have just done so. My god, the calling out of players and Pep, calling for Raz, saying Grealish and Mahrez are not feared by anyone. What has happened to us as fans, seriously?

Last night, I couldn't believe what I was reading at half time so I posted this:

Some strange stuff here, as always. We have played decently, and were the better team, until 2 mistakes in two minutes. We can come back into this. I understand the emotion, but many don't speak like fans.

We are second in the league in what is a very strange season, with more players from City at the World Cup than any team in world football, with DIas, Walker, Stones and Laporte out for a chunk of the season and some seasoned professionals having left us, with replacements brand new to the PL. I stand by what I said: start acting like supporters who understand the club and football - it is not a given to win - and nearly every single supporter in the country would be very damn grateful for what we have, and have had.

I'm sorry but who are these ageing players? Gundogan is one I'd allow to leave in the summer. Injuries mean he's physically a passenger in most games and whilst his quality on the ball is great, I think we'd replace him easily with fresh legs.

Foden's fine. His drop in form is being overplayed. He's 2 goals and 4 assists off equalling his best return in a league campaign for us, with half the season left to play. Pep's always been hard on him because his ceiling is high. He got hauled off at OT but he was being ignored by Cancelo for the majority of the first half. If we want players closer to Haaland and stretching play, he needs to be on the pitch.

De Bruyne is 31 and there have been plenty of times he's had a drop in form only to come back and prove his class. I don't see this as being any different. If he was 33 or 34 then maybe I'd call it time, but not at 31.

Anyone who wants to leave will be allowed to in the summer, and we'll replace them. Laporte showed a lot of fight against Southampton - he was fuming with the performance. Bernardo will surely go, but he's always given his all for the club and I expect him to do the same. His form has been miles off so far though. Cancelo...I'd personally sell.

They will have to come good, the manager has called them out privately and now publicly, they either return fit and motivated or there could well be some shocks come the summer.

The nostalgia for Sterling is the funniest bit. In five years when we have a pacy winger with a shite first touch who keeps beating a defender and puttting an aimless cross in people on the match thread will be getting nostalgic about Mahrez's intelligent runs and match winning performances and saying we never replaced the thoughtful leadership and control of Gundo.

I still think, from what I heard from folk at the game, that they were booing the officials rather than the team. Maybe Pep, much as I love him, should have been calling out the officials? It’s about time someone at the club called them out.
That may have been the case actually EB. However Gary Neville sprouting “ooh boo‘s“ just because he might have been used to hearing them over at OT, he definitely directed them to meaning the team. I quite agree with you however about calling out the officials, some of those challenges, in particular on Lewis were too much and too often.

How do you know he’s called them out privately. Do you work for City?
