Spurs (H) Post Match Thread

What kind of a reply do you want me to give you, my friend? How about restructuring 3 sentences of your post:

"They are looking for any excuse to rule it out and make us drop points. They are not interested in balance (/ justice, may I add). City dropping points is more important to them." Period...
I wasn't really expecting a reply, it was mainly rhetorical. :)

I'm all VAR'd out for the evening, suppose it's time to just get over it now.

Even with the disallowed goal it feels like they are looking for any excuse to rule it out and make us drop points. They had to have known at half time, everyone saw they missed the penalty shout.

Even though it's the weaker claim of the two, they could fully justify giving a penalty there, even though the goal doesn't stand. It's not like anyone would argue there wasn't a pull on the arm, some may say it is harsh to give a foul but then so is handball itself and so was not giving Rodri a penalty.

I suppose they may have been too focused on the handball to look for anything else. Also I'm not really sure what they would do if they spotted it, would they discount the handball because of the pull on the arm and the goal stands or would they give two decisions(handball and a penalty)?

Either way the conversation would be so different had they given us something today. It seems they are not interested in balance. City dropping points is more important to them perhaps...
Still trying to climb out of Otamendi’s pocket. Completely invisible the whole game. Sole contribution was a shot at the corner flag from 70 yards.
It was like one of Rory Mcelroy's shots at the Open.

Few points apart from the obvious.

Silva ineffective. Mahrez predictable after coming on. Last season we had Sane.

KDB nowhere near fit. He was at walking pace by end of the game

9 times out of 10 we wi. That and win it well

Could not understand that either.

And the dick head was stood 10 yards away.

The VAR was the money shot, but they can’t always rely on it.

It’s them decisions during regular play that concern me the most. It’s deliberate and disrupts our flow/changes our mentality.

In the grand scheme that will go unnoticed in all this noise.

Seriously Simon you are so defensive of VAR throughout this thread. I just don’t get it, the majority of posters judging by responses don’t get it. Are you Keith Hackett per chance?

Im not defenisve of VAR

I believe it got one decision right (unfortunately) with the goal being chalked off by GJ

I believe the ref got the rodri decision wrong.....but VAR wont over rule decisions by refs unless its a clear wrong decision (this is what we are being told anyway)...the people in control of VAR learly didnt believe that the ref had made the wrong decision (or missed it completely) with the denial of the penalty....now you, me and every other city fan plus pundits and commentators all belive it was a penalty -but the refs (the one on the pitch and the ones using VAR didnt belive it was)

VAR is just another level of refeeing.......it will get most of its decisions right as with handballs and offsides it either a yes or no answer.....the bit where it will be contentious is the same area that ref's decisions have always been contentious.....ie, is it a foul or not type decisions....

Gear in theory until it’s the dippers or rags who get two penalties today.

but thats just the normal argument that the rags/dippers get favourable decisions for them......it wont be able to favour them with offsides and handballs (unless the people putting the lines on the pith to judge on/offside deliberately tamper with the system) as they are clear cut either yes or no decisions.

Well if it doesn’t matter and the refs word and var is gospel why the fuck are you posting on a fans forum

Shut down talksport sky and match of the day because people commenting on football doesn’t matter.

Football it’s all about opinions isn’t it . Nope ref said this so nobody can say anything on the point cos ref is right end of . Nobody else can have a view or say what they think on whether the ref is wrong or right . Close down bluemoon now opinions don’t matter

The ref's word has always been gospel...when has a decision ever been changed after a match has finished? (unless you count recinded red cards) - there is now just another level of decision making on certain points; offsides, handballs and goals (All looking at clear and obvious errors) - the VAR rfs are not going to overule the on pith ref unless its an obvious mistake that he completely misses as its behind him/he doesnt see it cause his view is blocked - its going to back the ref's decisions on fouls/not foul virtually all the time unless the ref learly misses something - for instance it will probably stop the off the ball serious stuff and it should stop the diving as when the ref gives a penalty VAR will check it and if (like Salah) the player dives without contat it will be over ruled.....For instance if the ref had given a penalty against rodri last week vs Wetham when their player dived int he box i bellive VAR would have over ruled it as the reply learly showed that there was no contact from the angle the camera was looking at it......but you could easily see from the ref's position why it may have been given if he had cause it could look like there had been contact even though there hadnt been cause certain players are very goo at either feigning contact or causing the contact its self....

think of stelings last season, when he kicked the ground and we got a penalty that no one even sterling appealed for....that would have been (rightfully) over ruled after a VAR referral

Of course it will...if that came off van dykes arm today and salah slotted it in they'll be celebrating 3pts....if Pogba gets wrestled to the floor at the swamp then var will kick in and they'll get a penalty. Keep watching coz it'll fuckin happen sooner rather than later mark my words.

There will be a time this season where the Dippers will get a penalty because 'there was contact', and City won't get a penalty because 'there wasn't enough contact'.

There will still be an anonymous referee making a decision, and it will still be subjective, and there will still be no recompense for an incorrect decision, and we will still get shafted and it will still be corrupt.

Dammit, just watched MOTD.

Final take away on this arm drag back, is everyone is confusing when it came(twitter for you).

There were two phases. The drag back comes from his starting position as he sets off to meet the ball. It was a clear as day drag on the arm though to stay with his man. There was contact when the ball arrives but that is just normal bracing/feeling.

So it didn't directly lead to the handball and makes the claim a little weaker but it's still there. The point is they owed us one and that was an opportunity to make it right, while applying the letter of the law. A generous one to make up for missing a stonewall one in the first half.

Before any Spurs fans make the comparison, this was not the same as jostling for position(normal), as someone claimed for the Llortente incident last season. For simply bracing against him, with the only hint of a push after the ball was already goal bound(seen all the time on corners too). Plus you weren't denied a stonewall pen before it and thus were owed nothing.

VAR is a farce. The new handball rule goes too far.

City still aren't clinical enough.

Defending was not good enough on their goals; especially from Eddie on the first.

The good news: most of our game was superb considering that preparation wise we are still in preseason.

Despite all the VAR bollocks I thought we played really well today and were clearly the much better side.

Rodri had a really good game and is starting to look the part.

KDB was excellent before tiring.

We need to stop missing so many chances. It allows VAR to impact the result. We had pure chances to wrap
It up today but didn’t take them.

I’ve seen enough to know any **** wanting this league will need to finish above us.

Played well in spells, looked vulnerable at set pieces without vinny, they only had a few but just that little more nervy without him.

On a side note ! How bad was Mahrez when he came on. 3 or 4 give aways. 10 backward passes, then added to that, he just walks about. Not a fan of him.

Onto the next
