Spurs (H) - Post-Match Thread

Well I mean, it was. A 3-2 loss at home is by any definition not a good result is it?

A result that gives the baying mob exactly what they want and gives the scouse cunts a chance to go just 3 points behind us and with that small a gap anything can happen. How is that not a bad implication for the rest of the season? Surely we want to have as big as a cushion as we can.

for what it’s worth I expect them to slip up (again) and we’re still leading so I think we will still win the league.

Nice attempt at being the bigger blue though.
It was a terrible result but let's be honest you never know with Spuds and us, disappointing but not unexpected.

Expect more of the same from the Rags and Dippers at our place, sitting back and long balls to catch a break.
Dippers did this yesterday against Norwich at home!!!
Time to get the Dias / Stones pairing up and running.

The only reason we're all pissed off is the Media reaction.

"Game of the season" would they be saying that if we won 3 - 2, would they fuck.

Saying we should have paid 150m for Kane instead of buying Grealish!
Kane has been anonymous for most of the season then has a stormer in February!

Dippers still have a lot to do.

BTW, these fucking journalists, Delaney and Lewis are actually saying we've dropped 4 points with our results against Spuds and Soton, tells you all you need to know about their credentials.

I think that was the most compact back 10 or 8 City have played against.
They was just no room anywhere near the spurs penalty box.
I dont like even with a top quality centre forward we would have had much joy.
That said I would have liked to see Delap for 20 minutes or so, to see if he could put himself abit

On another point why do refs stop corners from being taken to tell the defender to stop holding or pushing ? Why not just let the corner be taken than punish the foul ie a penalty

They were always very big mate, as a few have been saying for a while.

Everton and United will play exactly the same way.

It's all about perception and Liverpool have the momentum right now.

I can't fathom why some thought games at Palace, Wolves, Leeds and Burnley won't be just as tough in this run-in?

They are real bastard fixtures at the business end.

I have a slight hope Leeds will get a result today and take that into getting something at Liverpool.

Win our next two games and our result yesterday will have clearly focused a few minds.
I think Everton are very average and need to win
I think paying dead and getting beat will do lampard no favours so he may as well have a go (within reason)
Possibly same for United
Not getting a point yesterday after the penalty was criminal

City's tactics have always been based around Plan A and over 38 games, they work out fine.

However, there will always be occasions when we lose the ball in daft positions, and suddenly our flanks are exposed to a quick counter attack. Sterling is the biggest culprit, but yesterday De Bruyne and Rodri were equally guilty.
Mahrez has to start more often, because he rarely concedes posession.

Similarly, just because Cancelo creates so many opportunities, we can't ignore the fact that he's a defensive liability who makes no proper attempt to block a cross. Fulham profited, and even in Lisbon he struggled against their right winger in the first 20 minutes.
To be fair Plan A is effective like 95% of the time.

Occasionally we do need a Plan B. Lack of for me, has cost us a few times under Pep tenure. Particularly in Europe at the business end of a campaign..

I felt from 20 minutes in yesterday we needed that Plan B.

Spurs game plan was pretty obvious, playing with a defensive back 8.And waiting for us to lose the Ball on the edge of their Box, getting quick Balls out to Kane and Son who were stood on the half way line virtually goal hanging.

It wasn't Rocket Science, this is what they do effectively against us. They were playing to their own strengths .A shit average side with 2 decent players. We could literally have man marked Kane and Son for 90 minutes and won that game. They are literally their only threats. There will not be another side this season as accommodating as we were yesterday. They will likely lose their next game after coming down off the euphoria of being gifted the "We beat City Cup".

All we had to do yesterday was try something different, And Spurs would have been fucked.Mix things up a bit.

They knew how we play, and set up to smother us, and stifle our play.

All we did was carry on regardless, banging at the Door, hoping that a piece of individual brilliance would save the day. When what was really needed was a change of style. I think the Players subconsciously knew we need to change, hence why they started crossing Balls to the non existent striker in Spurs Box.

Spurs are shit at defending set pieces. Yet we chose not to put on Delap to try and exploit convert the crosses coming in. No idea why we don't change our style in games like this.

When we get these types of games, we need a better Plan B than just aimlessly crossing to 5 foot 5 players playing in opponents box.

For me it is all that has stopped Pep from achieving true greatness. His arrogance can also be his Achilles Heal. Sure he plays beautiful sexy football, very easy on the Eye, Great to watch. But i do think the philosophy of his sides will never change how they play regardless of opposition has cost him a few Champions Leagues with us and Bayern Munich. Fact is playing like Spurs did is what will likely happen to us again at some point in the Champions League, and again the best team, who should be winning it will go out again.

Yep, for some reason of late, he is has tweaked Foden and Bernardo positions?

They are far too high against a five and when you have Kev's high risk passing added into the mix, it doesn't take much for decent teams to break on us.

We are at our most effective when Foden and Bernie make the three in the engine room, simply because Rodri doesn't have the engine and people run off the back of him.

For me, there is a time and place for Kev to be in the team at the same time as all the other attackers.

Mahrez is pivotal right now and if that means one of Kev or Phil needs to start on the bench and we are more solid, then that's what we do.

Gundo in the false nine, Bernie and Phil in the middle with Rodri and Mahrez wide right, that's my preferred starters.

Been saying for months that we need Bernado and Fodens energy in the midield, would argue that you could interchange Foden and KDB, but otherwise you're spot on

Spurs played as ever team does against City, sit back, defend for your lives and hope to hit on the break. Not rocket science and certanly no "Conte" masterclass. Spurs got lucky and assisted by poor defending and good finishing won the game, these results happen but this team and manager make them a very rare event.

It also allows for a break in play and momentum being lost, plus it wastes a good 5 mins over a game not added at the end.

Still seething about yesterday. Can't even bring myself to look at any TV footage.

I don't believe Pep didn't prepare or brief the players properly but yet gain we have dominated a Spurs team and lot / not beaten them.

Maybe we were too offensive but when every player bar Ederson has his average position on halfway or beyond into Spur's half, you simply should not lose in such circumstances. Conceding a late goal so easily is criminal. When yo have just scored, you make sure that you focus on keeping the ball away from your own goal as after scoring is when you are most vulnerable.

This will be repeated in three weeks time when the scum roll up. We'll play right in to utd's arms and get picked off on the break. We know they're crap but they will have a plan make no mistake about it
