Spurs lose the 2012 Stadium to West Ham

Too many idiots in this thread aren't looking at the bigger picture, they're too busy laughing at "getting one over" Spurs to realise that they are the only viable option for that Stadium.

Anyone who's actually listened to the plans about the Spuds bid will realise it's got nothing to do with knocking down the stadium and everything to do with improving other teams facilities aswell as getting the best out of the olympic stadium, which West Ham will never do, nor fill it and when they get relegated the Olympic Delegation will be a laughing stock, will order an investigation into the bid (like Marc said) and then give the stadium to Spurs.

I've got nothing against West Ham, and I hate spuds. But I'm a realist, the stadiums only hope of not being a white elephant is if Spuds get it.

True, but what most people care about what works in favour of their club more than they do about 'the national interest' or public money and that's perfectly understandable.

Well I did think that was a little bit of Levy bravado..... but having spoken to a couple of very well connected people, they think it is a dead duck due to the banks and financial institutions are not keen at all on lending/financing £450m for a new stadium.....

Time will tell...... that bravado worked in reverse last year when we were pushing for planning permission... so who knows..... Levy is a very good poker player.... he is going to need to be.

That project was dead in the water as soon as SPurs owner said it had to be more or less self-financed and his money would not be used.

Well if all your eggs are in that particular basket now, I'd say it's vitally important for Spurs. To maintain competitiveness revenue needs to be competitive with the rest of the 'big 6' (called for convenience sake) and we can and almost certainly will expand our stadium, Liverpool's expansion plans are still an unknown quantity, Chelsea are a bit shafted on that front but have a head start in terms of revenue and recent global appeal, etc. Arse and United are already sorted obviously.

West Ham fans are thinking more a victory over us and are gutted they seem to have won the award of the stadium.....

As for this misconception that the majority of Spurs fans don't want to move, it is in fact a minority if the petitions and groups are anything to go by.... If the club contacted every fan on their database I would guess it would be 80/20 in favour of the move..... we know it is our one opportunity to increase revenues for very little expenditure....

Sorry Marc I can't understand your view on this at all.
Firstly, I can't believe that many Spurs fans actually want to move out of Tottenham and into East London regardless of the extra capacity. You're a North London team and your derby is against Arsenal so get over it!
Secondly, you're goin to get agg every week from West Ham who are on your doorstep. They'll make the Arse look like pussycats in comparison, most Spurs fans must see that.
Thirdly, it's very arrogant of Spurs to think that West Ham can't make it work. For me it's got to be worth trying. Stop me if I'm wrong but the stadium is in East London and the biggest, high profile club in East London is West Ham. They've got to be the natural hosts. I liked going to Upton park but it in need of bringing into the 21st century. Also if WHU do get it right, running track or no running track, they could easliy be pushing 45,000-50,000 fans each match which makes an East London team a major player and increases competition which is good for the premier League and all of us in the long run.

I'd say that's very optimistic. They'd have to have a really good pricing scheme.

ERB......

We won't get agg from Spammers..... yes we are a north london club but you have to move with the times (and money)... the two most successful teams of the 21st century so far do not play in the area they are named after!!!!

Man Utd do not play in Manchester so I am led to believe and Chelsea play in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and NOT as is the usual misconception in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea.... semantics you may say.... but its true....

Arsenal crossed the Thames (all be it a long long time ago) but they came from South London.... there is no such place name as Arsenal (the tube station is Gillespie Road, Arsenal paid for it to have it's name changed, the tiles along the platform still say Gillespie Road)..... so I am sure those that are against the move, will get over it...

I know it was different for you when you moved from Maine Road as you were still in Manchester, but geographically it was a big move..... I would guess the majority of fans are more than happy now??

Yes you are right it is very arrogant of us saying West Ham can't make it work.... history tells you they have never averaged more than 34,000 in a season, their average over the last 10 years is 28,000, 20 years is 26,000, 30 years is 25,000.... where will they find another 20k fans 25 times a season?? And more if they get relegated (every season they have spent outside the top flight since 1966 their average gates have dropped on average by 8-9,000......

If they go down this season, they won't be back in the PL for a while and that makes them as OS tenants a mistake in my book....

Stillsy..... intelligent contribution there...
