That he’s the only player in the world who would do such a thing? That he should be banned for three games and universally pilloried? That he should be ostracised within his own club?

He didn’t mention any other players. Just clubs. But it doesn’t matter either way. The purpose was to support his player and, to a lesser extent, to foster an us versus the world mentality.
