The penalty debate is fucking ridiculous and Ginola has just been shouted down for saying the right thing. It's a tackle from behind and even though Rose touches the ball his left leg catches the ankle of Dzeko which makes it 100% a penalty.

The offside was so and so, you can see why the linesman gave it. I think you can make a very fair case for saying Adebayor was offside anyway and there was a blatant foul on Zabaleta two seconds before the free-kick for the cross, which wasn't a foul anyway.

Yes, Rose did make contact with the ball first. It didn't change the ball's route and after that, Dzeko was still on for a good shot at goal. Then the contact with Dzeko was made so yes, he denied him a goal scoring opportunity.

Open and shut.

It's a nailed-on penalty, but to be fair, not a red card for me. I found that very harsh. But I'm not sure about the rule on this. Does the ref have to card the player in these cases?

If he doesn't make the tackle, Dzeko has a shot on goal so of course its a red card for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Definitely the best 35 mintes I've ever watched from a City-team. It was a pity the ref spoiled it by not recognizing the beautiful game of football and prefer the kick and rush (on our players). It's beyond me how we didn't lead 3 or 4-0 before Spurs were wrongly awarded a freekick for their player performing an "Ashley Young" and scored a goal that was correctly given offside. We wasted a few chances, their goalkeeper made the save of the year, and we were very unlucky. I don't even want to mention (but doing an Arsene Wenger, I do mention it) the moment their player was trying to catch the ball with his hands and after several attempts failed to do so. Yet no penalty was given. Up until halftime the ref enjoyed trying to get our players booked and we lost Aguero injured to ruin what was such a perfect 1st half performance from our side.

While still debateing if the referee was from Greater London, as to Brendan Rogers' philosophy, the linesman who got the offside descision correct, was putting his promotionhopes in doubt when going against the original descision by the ref (and twittering twat Lineker), and -correctly again- flagged for a penalty. Unfortunately the Spurs player had to go off and that was harsh. I'd rather we beat them with 11 and it would not have been a much harder task, but what can you do about these silly rules. Penalty, sending off, suspension.
From than on it was never a match. I stand correctly, it was never a match before that. We finished of a very good and solid performance by scoring another 3, letting the odd one in from a setpiece obviously, as that is simply not Hart his expertise. It won't take away anything from a great night out.

Again, a pity one of the finest footballshows was harshly interrupted by poor refereeing, yet not derailled. Even the hardest Spurs-fans had to admire the way we played. Unfortunately they didn't. However the clubs' manager graciously did up until the moment he said we were the best team on the planet. We're not, but we are clearly working on it. And as long as we do I just enjoy the ride.

Still don't get it. You'd then have to argue that every player who gets brought down in the area is potentially going to get a shot in on goal. Yet penalties are awarded without the card following.

-- Thu Jan 30, 2014 10:16 am --

I think if he's the last man yes. Otherwise its a yellow, depending on the incident.

OK, this I follow. The last man argument is fair enough. Although strictly speaking, the last man is the keeper, unless he's totally out of position. And the keeper might have saved the shot.

He was running through on goal mate in a virtually central position ad was just about to shoot.

Dont get what's so difficult in accepting or seeing that?

The law states "denying a clear goal scoring opportunity".

Rose did that last night, hence the red card.

-- Thu Jan 30, 2014 9:19 am --

Back to the match in which we cheated Spurs and got lucky.....

21 shots, 10 on target, 656 passes and 66$ possession.

Great display by us, especially the first half where they were fortunate to be only 1 down. Would play Negredo and Jovetic against Chelsea though, Dzeko could cost us by not taking the ridiculous amount of chances he has.

Regarding the 'controversy', Adebayor goes to head the ball, therefore he is interfering with play, so the goal was correctly disallowed. And Rose takes Dzeko from behind. Yes he gets the top of the ball but, according to some, that doesnt matter anymore. Also, that is a foul anywhere else on the pitch so it is a clear penalty for me. Nobody seems to be mentioning the Adebayor 'stamp' which could have been a red? And they decided to play basketball in their own box in the first half so we should have had a penalty anyway. At the end of the day though, who cares!?

Top of the league ;)
