SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

Re: SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

So he is with the England squad. This isn't going to be completed quickly. No way will we be the only bid. Just hope it's resolved quickly, looks as though m'on doesn't want it dragging on over the summer. Fingers crossed but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

There is no doubt Barry is a top player, he is an England International. However he isn't the type of player I would have been looking for. If he is coming as a central midfielder I wouldn't put him in before either Kompany, De Jong or Ireland. A left midfielder? Not unless Hughes changes the whole set up of the team and if so I'd prefer Petrov. Left back? I don't think Barry would go for that.

hes a quality link man. central midfield with superman and de jong behind with vince at centre back.

I thought Barry was a central midfielder and not a left winger so why he would be placed on the left of midfield is beyond me personally. I thought he done the same job as Nigel De Jong aswell basically but perhaps more effectively at this moment in their respective careers.
he can play on the left and has is a good crosser of the ball, in the centre he plays a tad more attacking than de jong, plays more attacking passes and gets forward a bit more.

You are joking? He is 5 times better than De Jong or Kompany will ever be in midfield. He will be the link up man for the defensive midfielder to pass to so Barry can then give the ball to the forward players. Kompany and De Jong, although good players cannot pass for toffee. The whole balance and ability of the team will go up with Barry in there. I guess you'll have to see to believe me.

You have offered more then £ 12 Mill and I'm quite certain of it. Setanta and ITK reports are calling it on £ 18 Mill, the fee we wanted last year.
IF you have given a £ 12 Mill offer Liverpool will probably beat you to him, and it doesn't looks like that's the case.

Anyway good luck to him. Don't think he is CL material, but a very good player which will make your squad stronger.

Are you convinced those 3 playing in midfield can take us to the next level ? kompany is a CB - no question about it.

Hi guys Villa fan here. Thought I would just say that is something I wasn't expecting! Nice forum you have here! City must have offered big bucks for us to accept it. Would be sad to see Gareth go but I do think he can get replaced. You would be getting a hardworker who clears up in midfield. Only problem with Barry is he slow as hell if he loses the ball he struggles to get back. He is very versatile too, but don't think he is very good at LB

Even though he would have lied to Villa fans about leaving for Champions League I would wish him the best great servent to th4 club. Would rather he went City than Liverpool that is for sure, filthy disgraceful club! Im hoping its a big cash deal or Richards or Sturridge is included. Be interesting to see how this truns out
!

I DON;T THINK IT WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE MEGA MONEY TBH ..... he is in last year on contract now, and they would lose him for nothing at the end of next season ...... so i think they might have touted him out for a money move this summer, but might not have been as big as people assume .... i bet his wages are though !

i have to say another angle to look at this is, that he could be coming to us because we have outlined our transfer plans to him this summer and he felt compelled to come ..... our future is very bright so he could feel we have a better chance to push for top 4 than villa next season and may also have more longevity in the top 4 with some astute signings, however for villa with their budges and transfer policies, they would always be fighting to get into the top 4

De Jong has one of the best pass completion records in the league and the best at City.

Read this on one of the News Now Villa sites that came up

I'm hearing a deal in region of £12m has been done already,. In fact done last night and it's personal terms that he's agreeing in these "talks"... what a complete tool.... thrown his career straight out the window - but it does show man citeh's intent....
