He isnt really a DM. He's more a CM as he comes forward, which is what Kompany & De Jong DONT do.

Villa Fan: Barry doesn't make forward runs very ofton more of a 'centre circle' midfielder. You will score your penalties though!

Rather keep Elano on them 10 out 10 penalties scored

He doesn't need to make forward runs. He needs to take the ball off the defence and DJ, then give it to Ireland, Robinho, SWP etc.

I ain't as excited about the potential signing of this player as some of you guys appear to be , he's always appeared to be just a fairly average to good player to me ...... okay he's an England international but so were Vassell and Sinclair when we took them on , neither really set the world alight here.

Barry is 28 now , and it seems to me that even though he has a pretty good attendance record at Villa games , his goalscoring input has never really been up to much which is really something we need ..... we can't constantly just be relying on Irelands goals from that area , we need a-another doing it on a fairly consistent basis ..... as Scholes and Carrick do at the Swamp.

I reckon the Villa fan on here who suggests that Barry spends most of his time araound and about the centre-circle has it about right ....... but do we really need a player such as this?

I don't prentend to know the needs of Man City, but Barry is a million miles better than Vassell and Sinclair. He is an ever present for Capello and look even Stevie G has to play on the wing lol!.

Seriously, he does not have frills and skills but he will give your attack structure and protection. When I have seen you guy play it has appeared to be something that has been missing.

This is my problem we have Zab, Kompany, De Jong, Barry maybe Ireland, Elano, Johnson

if we get rid of elano and Johnson is still injured im sure we all agree ireland is a 100 pct start

Hughes refuses to drop dunne for kompany so accept it. where do you put zab de jong barry and kompany we have room for 2 of them and in my mind none of them are willing to be squad players/subs

Richards---Dunne---Onouha----Bridge
--------------De Jong--------------
----------Barry-----Ireland---------
SWP ------------------ -----Robbo
---------------ST-----------------

fit kompany and zab into that team without pissing off richards ireland barry dejong, and without removing dunne because hughes doesnt seem to favour swapping him for kompany, i dont think any of these 2 will be happy on the bench

Re: SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

Barry is the kind of player we should be trying to sign. Full International, excellent player, Premiership experience. As has been said, he'll provide that link between defence and midfield that we missed this season. De Jong and Kompany are defensive whereas Ireland is attacking, we needed someone to connect the two, Barry is that type of player. It's not an eye-catching, media attention grabbing signing, it's a signing that works on a purely footballing basis.

If the price is £12m, as has been stated, then that would be just about right, with him only having a year left on his contract. I'd say this was just about the right move for both clubs.

On the Villa front, I'm torn on them. On the one hand I have no problem with the team, they've got some really good players, and they're not obnoxiously conceited, like Spurs and Everton. However, on the other hand, I see them as being the major threat outside of the current top 4 to City, so on that basis don't want them to do well!

I think he will plug a great big gaping hole between bridge and Robbie, in a very professional way. Am delighted if we get him. I am hoping he will unlock the team.

Good posts from the Villa fans - have learnt quite a bit about him today.

Just don't play him left wing he is awful in that position!

Re: SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

He had been offered a contract of 75,000 a week to stay at villa, he ain't coming to city for money FFS,i'm sure an extra 10-20,000 a week isn't going to make that much difference on there decisions to move clubs.
