I think he will plug a great big gaping hole between bridge and Robbie, in a very professional way. Am delighted if we get him. I am hoping he will unlock the team.

Good posts from the Villa fans - have learnt quite a bit about him today.

Just don't play him left wing he is awful in that position!

He had been offered a contract of 75,000 a week to stay at villa, he ain't coming to city for money FFS,i'm sure an extra 10-20,000 a week isn't going to make that much difference on there decisions to move clubs.

Problem is he lost the passion for villa after last summer. O'Neill builds his teams on work ethic and 'running through a brick wall'. He just lost the passion for us, like one of us wanting to resign from work it is very hard to regain the desire.

The move will refresh him though!.

Anyway i better go so I still have a job to resign from!!

I ain't as excited about the potential signing of this player as some of you guys appear to be , he's always appeared to be just a fairly average to good player to me ...... okay he's an England international but so were Vassell and Sinclair when we took them on , neither really set the world alight here.

Barry is 28 now , and it seems to me that even though he has a pretty good attendance record at Villa games , his goalscoring input has never really been up to much which is really something we need ..... we can't constantly just be relying on Irelands goals from that area , we need a-another doing it on a fairly consistent basis ..... as Scholes and Carrick do at the Swamp.

I reckon the Villa fan on here who suggests that Barry spends most of his time araound and about the centre-circle has it about right ....... but do we really need a player such as this?

I don't prentend to know the needs of Man City, but Barry is a million miles better than Vassell and Sinclair. He is an ever present for Capello and look even Stevie G has to play on the wing lol!.

Seriously, he does not have frills and skills but he will give your attack structure and protection. When I have seen you guy play it has appeared to be something that has been missing.

I take your points , and to be fair i don't see the guy play as much as you do obviously ....... i'm just going off the bits that i have seen of the player.

He has definetely put in or two very impressive England and Villa performances over time , no doubt about that ....i'm just not 100% certain that he's the type of player we would really benefit from by signing ....... and according to wikipedia , we're talking around £18 million here.

Cheers to the villa fan for his dignified posts we have too many muppets from other teams coming on here at the moment and it's really refreshing to see no bitterness for once.
I personally think Barry is exactly what we need, he's a brilliant footballer.

It's likely to be around £ 15 - 18 though. Setanta is reporting £ 18 as well as some ITK reports.

Money is what you got going for you. With a £ 10-12 Mill offer he would leave to Liverpool IMO. You probably offered a a lot and thought you could outmuscle other clubs financially, which it looks like you have done.
