I'm amazed some Villa fans don't rate him that highly and are glad to see him go :S

They dont really think that , they are just pissed off ickle city will be his new club hopefully.

It's not really that he isn't a good player, cause he is. He just doesn't suit our 2 man midfield partnership. In fact I'd go as far as saying he doesn't cut it in a 2 man partnership anywhere. IMO.

It's a case of having an engineer doing a teachers job. The engineer is a valuable asset, but simply doesn't do the job as well as a teacher. Shit analogy, but sometimes you need a change.
How good do you think he'll be in our formation mate?

I don't really know what formation you will be playing. I can see him do very well behind Jong and Ireland, or in between them. As long as he got people around him to do most of the running and dirty work he is excellent. Atleast you would need a 3 man central midfield IMO.

I'd say he'll play along side Ireland with De Jong behind him i think. De Jong is everywhere and so is Stevie so we have a mobile midfield just a very defensive one. He'll basically be the link man keeping our team flowing. Is that his favoured position?

He scores on average 8 goals a season, how many did Kompany score for us? Im not saying Kompany is crap by the way, but having De Jong in the centre sort of means we are a bit too defensive in games, the balance isnt there so to speak.

Play Kompany alongs side Ned in the back 4, with DeJong, Ireland and Barry In midfield. Ireland can run riot without needing to worry about defending.

A little generous there 'Goater' ...... it's more like that appears to average around FIVE goals a season , or at least he has for the last seven seasons anyroad!

But i'm not saying that a bad total for a midfielder , or that he doesn't put a lot of work into making other parts of his game work ..... i just don't know if he's actually gonna make much difference to our side , enough difference to really take us forward anyway ......... and iim not sure he'll be as good a signing as say , Huddlestone or Arteta would have been for us for instance , if we'd wanted to buy from the players already in this country.

Re: SSN Breaking News — Gareth Barry [merged]

as i've said before he's PERFECT for our team and formation.

we play 3 in midfield, like chelsea. we have a DM who's job is 99% defensive, we have an MC who's job is 50/50 defense and attack and an AM who is 99% attack. when Hamman, Johnson and Elano were our three, it worked perfectly. Johnson's energy to keep going box to box, his fine passing ability and decent shooting (sometimes awesome) and good tackling abilty freed up Elano to go wild offensively while Didi kept things tight at the back. This is when we had our best period under Sven, and it all went tits up when MJ went out of the side.

Gareth Barry will do the MC job brilliantly, he's a model pro and has tonnes of PL experience. I think De Jong will be the preferred DM and Ireland at AM. I think Kompany will switch to CB leaving Dunne's future somewhat in doubt, especially if we sign another CB.

Barry can also play LM and LB which adds massive depth to the squad so I really hope this happens.
