What makes me laugh is people go on about sponsorship and it being monitored... look at barca's latest shirt deal, no one mentioned the huge figured they received for that.
Because it's Barca, they can do no wrong apparently. Luckily we can use that to our advantage if anyone questions our sponsorships.

What no you cant!! Face it they more recognisable around the world than us and turn over £1 billion in revenue a year!!

No they dont and yes you can.

This post on there made me laugh:

Was this deal sealed by Sheikh Mansour with a sock over his hand?

Quote:
Mansour: "Hello, Sheikh Mansour. I'd like to sponsor your stadium for eleventy-billion quid."

Mansour: "That's very generous of you, Sheikh Mansour. Would you like to buy Gareth Barry too?"

Mansour: "F**k right off. I may be a sock but I'm not bloody stupid."

YES we can, it doesn't matter how much more recognisable they are. Part of the rules claim that whatever the highest sponsorship deals are are seen as the highest Market rate, therefore we are allowed to have sponsorship deals that are equal to Barca's.
Look - can we put this misunderstanding of FFPR to bed. A deal can only be questioned if it takes place between related parties and these are tightly defined in the FFPR.

One of our non-execs is a director of Etihad as are two of Sheikh Mansour's half-brothers but this is not likely to be regarded as a related-party transaction. Therefore Etihad can pay whatever they like and UEFA can't do a thing.
The rules on this are that whether a person has significant influence in both the family and the related party. They give examples but it's not exhaustive. There might be some quibbling about 'significant influence' and 'close family' in the coming years. UEFA, lawyers at the ready...

TECOMS it is then!

-- Thu Jul 07, 2011 5:31 pm --

or ECOMS would probably be more now.

Re: Stadium Naming Rights.

I know that TH a while back said we have no need to worry about FFPRs with the deals that will come our way, I suspect this is the first, they can call it what they want for all I care the club will benefit significantly without the fans having to did deeper in their pockets. If the rags can have a 400m shirt deal why can't we have a 400m stadia naming rights. :-)

No surprises.

What will be a surprise to most is the size of the deal......
In a good or bad way? I can't see us getting too much more per season than what Arsenal get from Emirates. So the size of the deal depends on the length of the deal. Are we talking 10 years, 15 years, 20 years?

In a good way, it's only my opinion but I expect us to push the boundaries to the max.

This !!

watch this space boys !!

-- Thu Jul 07, 2011 1:01 pm --

Notwithstanding the above I would say that as long as this deal does not significantly exceed the next highest in the game (Bayern IIRC) then it hard to see UEFA not sanctioning it, as it will set a new benchmark for such deals which will consequently bring more money into the game and also....UEFA.

20 mill is my guess.
