Stadium Shop Parking

That said, walking over the bridge ain't a big deal for the vast majority and blue badge holders still have access to the immediate parking!

But not everyone who has difficulties has a Blue Badge. For example I can walk a certain distance but I have difficulty on slopes and would find it almost impossible to walk up Joe Mercer way and definitely not over the bridge across the main road.

Granted I do not go into the shop as often as I used to but I do go in often enough for this to be a nuisance and an inconvenience. Yes I could buy the things online but I am a little old fashioned in that I like to see the items I am buying before I purchase.

This is my view of the jobsworthy employee who came up with this idea.

Health & Safety – cars and people don’t mix well, one soft and breakable the other weighs a ton.

Terrorism – don’t want anyone smuggling something in a parked car and using it in the shop or around the stadium.

Now flaws in the thinking behind the decision and they are really difficult to spot unless you are a manager and you feel you have to justify your position from time to time by making changes.

1) There are a lot more people to hit with your car on a match day, or are they banning cars on match day to? If the risk is low on a match day it’s a lot lower when there is only about half a dozen cars around.

2) Any terrorist with one brain cell would find it illogical to attack the Etihad on a day when you would have to hang around waiting for someone to attack them when you have 50,000 people around on a match day. With all those around you don’t need a car.

Here is my suggestion City – move the guy before he can do more damage, make him a car park attendant we obviously need them around the stadium midweek!!!

I agree with you, things never look the same online as when viewed in person. Most of the stuff in the shop is frankly not worth the price asked, and I for one don't want to walk around advertising our sponsors.

Will not bother me at all as I hardly ever go in there anyway.

OK point taken. I am a fan of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" rationale so the Club have scored an OG with these parking changes!

You didn't read my earlier post where the staff told me they couldn't park there either. On the gate they told me it was for 'security reasons' and it sounded quite permanent to me.

So now I'll have to drag my Rag Dad with me [as he has a blue badge] so I can drive in, if I've understood that correctly.

OK it's bad on the staff too. Someone will be on the make / take though!

Did City say - it is going to be TRIALLED................yeh right!
When the visits to the shop become less and less - Merchandise Too dear anyway...........They will probably have to rethink........

Just another rule brought in on the back of safety , just like don't stand on the blue squares inside the ground & numerouse others, this country is full of jobsworth so who come up with crap like this.I often drive to the shop on my dinner hour to buy a few bits but no more, City you just lost a customer. Wonder what else they can dream up to inconvenience us further in this country terrified of its own shadow.

The email we received on Wednesday said they were trialling it.
How do you trial a security risk improvement? If after a month no one has blown up the stadium and no one has been run over is that considered a success despite it never happening before the new trial..??

So .... it's beyond the capabilities of a potential terrorist to get hold of a Blue Badge and still be able to drive in ...?

From Kevin Parker:

Further to the email last week here is an update with some more info re the reason for those visiting the Etihad now needing to park in North Car Park

"The purpose of this trial is not to inconvenience supporters, however due to the increased traffic, the number of pedestrians walking around the site and recent global events, it is important that we provide a safe and secure environment for all. A full site assessment has recently been carried out. As a result of this assessment and subsequent recommendations, along with additional security measures out in place by other high profile venues, the Club felt it was necessary to implement these changes, initially on a non-matchday. The feedback from the trial will be reviewed and learnings taken in relation to any further changes that may need to be made. Whilst the Club appreciate this does not alleviate all risk, it is a significant step to ensuring there is reduced vehicle movement and that parking around the stadium perimeter is within a 'controlled zone'. "

Feel free to give him my feedback.

(1) It does nothing to enhance security and safety; and

(2) It greatly inconveniences supporters, mostly us locals, who like to pop in to the store and ticket office in our lunch hours and so on.

this is a complete sham - I'll put money on there being an element of keeping the paparazi out too - might have to start bringing my M-I-L out for any visit to the shop so we can use her blue badge and continue to park in a sensible place

you used to be able to drive pretty much anywhere on the campus - I've got a photo of one of my cars parked about 10 feet away from the front of the Commonwealth Suite glass doors - taken before they built the little 'secure zone' barriers around it to keep the great unwashed away on match day

Kevin Parker, you Sir are a wanker and an arrogant wanker at that.

I think that's unfair - he's just trotting out the party line - which he publicly has to
Maybe the Official Supporters Club (there's a clue in the name) should do less trotting out the party line and actually stand up for its members, many of whom will have been inconvenienced by this. I wonder if he's had a reply to his email asking the club to review pricing in light of season after season of increases and vastly increased revenue from TV?

It's fucking murder on non match days,it's like the M6 on a Friday afternoon,cars everywhere.....NOT !!

Speed bumps all around the stadium, not a chance of a car accident or some **** being knocked down, like I said in a previous post there is no point them having 12 working in that shop from now on during the week, super City pissing on their fans again shocker......they will soon change their mind when takings plummet, which they will

Well said PB, the OFFICIAL Supporters Club is surely for the SUPPORTERS and just in case anyone is in any doubt that's FANS, people who have supported the club through thick and thin.

Maybe this is part of the 'rationale' let's not have a shop let's make them do all the shopping online?
