Stand leaders

Stand leaders are better than absolute silence in most of the stadium.

How exactly? Do you really think that some guy stood at the front of the stand is going to get everyone going?

The match itself creates its own atmosphere. The atmosphere against Spurs was good cause we scored after 14 seconds in a game we all thought we might struggle in.

Most home games we win comfortable so i guess people are just happy to sit and watch the game itself. The atmosphere at the Etihad has never been great and we've been there 10 years.

If people want to sing they will sing. If they don't want to sing they wont sing. A stand leader isn't going to change any of that.

Disagree

Our stadium has the worst atmosphere of any top club in the Premier League so far this season and has become the butt of jokes, the same sort of jokes we've made about the swamp for years. It used to have one of the best of the top clubs, but a big chunk of our fans seem to have lost their passion since we won the league.

FWIW, I sit in Block 107 and at weekend, this guy stood up out of nowhere and at the top of his voice sang "We're not really here!" and an unusually high number of people in the often quiet 107 joined in. All it took was one brave guy in the sullen silence to get people to join in. If there was someone like that in every block, I wouldn't complain. The Family Stand could benefit, especially.

Can't see a problem with it, I thought the atmosphere would improve with the better football on display but it has not, the seating debate is another issue one the club can not really do a lot about

I sit in CB3 because I love watching how play develops, I can see absolutely everything and enjoy talking to the folks around me about tactics etc. I have no interest in standing for 90 minutes and singing, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not my thing.

Now, if you were to introduce a designated safe standing area, great, people that want to be in there can be, but these Stand Leaders will just get abuse.

What is responsible for this is the biggest City myth.
Maine Road was bursting with atmosphere and noise every game, when nothing could be further from the truth

Perhaps we could bounce the stand leader around like an inflatable ball. Would please those keen on stand leaders and create a great atmosphere at the game.

Perhaps I havent given them a chance.

We should just buy that geezer with the bell from Portsmouth. £2m 'ought to do it.

I disagree, people will sing when others sing around them. It only needs a small group to keep something going and others will join in.

I don't know where some of you are getting this idea that the stand leader will be at the front of the block? Surely they'll have to be in their usual seat like the rest of us!

People often confuse passion with singing.

whatever happened to that bloke with a spit the dog puppet from Peterborough away in the FA cup run, '81?

He would make a simply magnificent stand leader, as would his furry friend...

Is this really true though?

I'm not trying to say that our atmosphere is anything to be desired, but if anything I'd say it's been better (post-move to CoMs) since the takeover because we've had bigger games.

watch that. Look at the fucking state of it.

Compared to this:

And I'm not even talking about a derby.

The best atmospheres come from the bigger games.

Stand leaders will not make any difference to our home atmosphere against Fulham.

Something I will maintain was a massive mistake by City was the North Stand level 1 move. Garry Cook had this great idea where each stand had it's own identity. South for noise, North for families.

There are those that had to leave the North Stand level 1 because they didn't go to the match with an under 16. so they moved to the South Stand because it was similarly priced to the North Stand. These people might only join in to a few songs a match, which would have sounded great in the North Stand as a chant filters round the ground, but in the South Stand they're seen as a "waste" because they don't join in with everything.

My point is that regardless of the designated stand leader you are always going to get one or two guys around you starting songs off, some keep going, some fizzle out. You don't need a specific person to start a song off!!

So what if this stand leader can't go one week? Do we appoint an assistant? Or will we just have to have a poor atmosphere that week.

It's really rather embarrassing. Nearly as bad as the incredibly cringy pre match quiz. Guy on the pitch last week could only name 5 ex City players.

Stand leaders is not a solution to this problem. I'd rather sit quietly than sit cringeing with embarrassment are someone making an idiot of themselves trying to sing on their own
