Stand leaders

i remember the leaders in kippax, them were the days. was always a few on their feet leading the way, memories
Proper days they were for us rabble. It's the standing vs sitting that makes all the difference. You could stand where you wished, and if you wanted to be in the throng, you stood near the leaders. Some preferred to stand aside and just soak up the atmosphere, or act as a buffer near the corner of the Scoreboard End. It was choice, though, that made the difference. If we are going to have a club appointed loon in the seats right next to a flask and butties family, then that's going to fall flat and, probably, that family would never come back. This scheme is OK in the right place, but in other areas, it's a poor idea.

Hi guys, my name's Jason and I'm here to be your stand leader for today's Barclay's kick ball event, so after 3 can all the ladies say 'ho' and all the boys wave your hands and shout 'Gooooooooo team'.

I am a northern boy. You can get fucked if you think I'm singing on command. In fact, tell me to sing and see where it gets you. Stand leader? You'll be cowering in the toilet cubicles before half time.

I hate to say this but when I used to go to the games in the early days, standing on the kipax I was one of the very few girls there and no one in their right minds would take little kids to a footy match. Nowadays it's a family day out and lads take their gf's / wives. You aren't gonna get many girls/ women standing up all the way through a game singing or kids of 6ish. Yes I know some women will join in and are very knowledgeable posters on here but the crowd has changed!!

Should have just reverted to that piped in chanting they tried a few years back. Think it was the game against Everton that kicked off at 11am or something like that.

So all the people on here are pissed off with no atmosphere, early leavers etc, why not throw your hats in the ring or is it ok only if someone else does it?

Manford has put his name forward for the padded seats.....

I think it's actually a decent idea. At least someone is trying to do something with the atmosphere. Much rather that than the lazy bastards who can't be arsed cheering the team on.

We already have stand leaders. They are self appointed and there's not enough of them. We always had them. They use to stand next to the away pen in the Kippax, or at the back of the North Stand when the Kippax went all-seated.

Somehow I don't think even this guy could make it work for us...

Shivers man that shit is intense.

Watched that twice and haven't spotted a single female or child.

Quite simply, football in Turkey is clearly very much an all male preserve as it once was here!

The other thing you will notice was that before the teams arrived, all the supporters were already on the terrace, not too busy buying that season's 5th shirt or waiting to be served with one of Jamie's Pies.

In short, the club have got to make a decision; The Etihad is either a football ground or a retail experience for the family with a soccer sideshow to amuse the dads!
Have a look at this video!

All the adult makes were banned for violence and the women took their place, this was before Turkish football was exposed as one of the most corrupt in the world

I am nominating myself for East 206. They hate my singing in there but too bad. It is likely to be a competition of one in 206

Harrogate Blues Ray is putting himself forward for East 209.

Love that video "I'm no cynic" but big crowds of girls TOGETHER having fun because they want to be there not just going along with their bf or hubby. No harassed mums trying to stop their kids being bored. Spouse it comes down to simple fact that people should only go to the game if they are passionate about it!!

Or the people that don't feel the need to act a certain way just because it's the way you like to act.

So what's the issue with someone trying to do something if you disagree with it?

Im looking forward to showsec throwing out the stand leaders for persistent standing along with the obligatory three game ban. So we will not have to tolerate them every match.

I don't have a problem with someone singing if they want to. I have a problem with someone telling me how I should act.

If a wannabee hall monitor just stands up and sings then fair enough. The second he tries to tell me what to do he'll be told to mind his own fucking business.

Will the stand leader in block 109 have to keep sitting down when he is told to?

Stand Leaders. What age group did they canvas for this?

Instead of silly surveys just read the forums if you want an objective view. oh yeah tailor the merchandise emails as well.

A quick heads up for atmosphere City 109, 110 &111 want to stand...then the singing will be louder and stop your employees in yellow coats beating up old men. REGULARLY.

I imagine it won't be like that. I assume the idea is for someone to get more vocal parts of the ground going like in Germany and Greece. I think the majority of the ground isn't atmosphere orientated so it wouldn't work on the third tier of the Colin bell but would be ok in the south stand and parts of the east stand.

How did we let it get to this?
Because we are one of the worst sets of fans for home atmosphere in the country - and that's saying something because nearly every single ground in England is rubbish for atmosphere.

Our vocal sections stand with their arms folded the rest of the ground sits on their hands. Even big games don't see an atmosphere anymore, United and Spurs outsung us and we were hammering both of them. People have even started whispering to each other during the game near me because it's so quiet they don't want everyone around them hearing what they're saying.

We've got a joke of a set-up at the stadium as well. We couldn't make it harder for ourselves to create a good atmosphere if we tried.

The last good atmosphere at the Etihad was the 1-0 (Kompany header) derby.

-- Wed Dec 04, 2013 8:05 pm --

They'd get laughed out of the ground if they were at it in the East and South Stands.

It could go well and work, or it could go badly and look very very silly. Some European teams have done it to good effect against us.
