Star Wars VII

just got back from watching it now with my 2 lads......1st thoughts are it was fantaastic, but has someone mentioned earlier on here i watched it in IMAX so it may have clouded my opinion slightly as the flight battles are amazing in 3d.

I havent taken too much from the story line at the moment, but i will let it sink in over the next couple of days.

Overall 8/10

Well its smashed box office records overtaking Jurassic world already and that opened in China at the same time, FA doesn't open in China until Jan 9th, I think it will beat Avatar and crack $3 billion!!! All over my Facebook there are non Star Wars fans going to watch it and obviously fans like me that will see it multiple times, Disney are going to make a bloody fortune out of the franchise.

Went to see it Sat and enjoyed it, thought they got the charactors of Ren, Rey and Finn just right, and their different stories/situations told in the right way

Hans death and Rens strugle between the dark and light side was played exactly right for me, especially after the prequils ruined the same conflict within Anakin, also the guardian comments about a lack of emotion were wrong, I though Chewies reaction was as you would expect.

and I think the fact that Abrams is not doing the next one will be good for it even though he has done a great job on this one

As I can see the point about him slightly re-hashing a new hope with the young Jedi descovering their powers and the blowing up of a planet destroying machine etc, but he has form for this with the awful Star trek into darkness fucking up the wrath of Khan and space seed, but it looks like he has learn't from that mess and instead used themes from the originals rather than just copying them.

I think the final scene has set it up nicely for the next one and cannot wait for it

Usually hate hyped up films so was expecting it to be not so good but it was really outstanding, it really sets everything up perfectly for a whole new series of films.

Second time round, still fantastic!

My favourite scene has to be the x-wings zooming over the lake coming to the aid of Han, Finn and Chewie. Watching the falcon carry out some amazing maneuvers by Rey narrowly follows it.

Some people are reading too much in to it, a fantastic film has been produced, enjoy it. Few people could have done a better job.

Yep, and completely tear the arse out of it over the next decade. Thought Marvel and DC capeshit was overbearing and tedious? Expect Star Wars to go the same way hundredfold.

Don't know why people think this.

Compare to Marvel, all of their films have generally been passable and some such as Guardians of the Galaxy were really good.

As a fan of the Expanded Universe which is now non-canon, there were hundreds of really well told stories which were begging for a movie. The Thrawn trilogy was a good example, as is Darth Plagueis and many others.

There's lots of good stories that can be told in that framework and Disney will look after it because they know it will generate revenue for decades.

Prequels minus CGI:

I gave episode 2 a re-watch the other day, its mad just how much of it is green screen. Must of saved them millions when making it.
The CGI doesnt even look good for the time, really shit

The hallway scenes on Coruscant in the Phantom Menace were just fucking offensive.
