Starting to lose its soul ?

THis is not the game to use as a measuring stick. We were huge favorites going in. Not just a Championship squad, but a squad that's probably going to be relegated from the Championship. Once we scored the first goal the game was over. When there is no drama it's hard to have much atmosphere. Let's see what happens at Wembly.

I think the OP makes a good point and I think standing has a lot to do with it.

Against Everton the 20,000 on the Kippax were making a deafening sound and the atmosphere was brilliant. I guess there is now an expectation of success and seating makes it hard to get the noise going.

Will never forget the atmosphere of that Everton quarter final.
I always get a little depressed when I get reminded of this. I was 11 and I was supposed to go to that game with my dad, but I got in trouble at school and he went on his own as a punishment :-(

It was supposed to be one of the great Maine Road nights.

I don't agree with the seats excuse. We have had excellent atmospheres in seated areas like for example last season United and QPR. Hamburg in the Europa league not so long ago. Southampton (last game at Maine road) it's the people in these sections that make the noise. Not the seats.

Neither will i .........

was a bit 'ropey' on the top deck of a bus on Lloyd Street South after the game though , as hundreds of scousers were being herded down the road right next to it !

Walk in the park compared to the game at Goodison!

Some Maine Road night that was. I thought Boro at home in the Semi Final 2nd leg of the League Cup in 76 shaded it though for atmosphere!

Yep , that was a fantastic night too ......

difficult to tell really which was the better.

I left early for the second time in 13 years. Around 87 mins.

I did have to be somewhere.

I don't know how about everyone else but when we beat Everton in 1981 at the 6th round stage, the 52,000 crammed into Maine Road exploded at the final whistle.

Yesterday we reached the FA cup semi final and at the final whistle the place was half empty. I know the game was over once the first goal went in but I include myself in the fact that I didn't get excited at the fact we had reached another Semi final in probably the biggest club cup competition in the world with the exception of Champions league of course.

I fear with our new found wealth and success that this "non-plus" feeling will get worse as the trophies and finals continue to arrive.

I hope not :(
I never leave a game early, but last night i was fuckin frozen. Never felt so cold at a game, sat three quarters up in the Collin bell stand. I bet most people left for the same reason.

I have never ever left early. Felt like it yesterday but thought an extra 5 minutes won't hurt, still defrosting now!!

Watching and listening from the above the Directors Box in the Colin Bell stand, you could clearly hear bother City and Barnsley fans singing. The atmosphere and noise was pretty good for most of the match. Of course there where times when the atmosphere died, but overall I thought both sets of fans played their part.

Don't believe the hype about there being no atmosphere at the Etihad. It's no true.
