Steaua Bucharest post-match thread

Im still waiting to hear the reports of more empty seats at the ethiad last night....and on Peps first European game.

Creating a "spare man" by dragging the opposition out of shape is an integral part of Pep's tactics.
I understand that. Lots of other tactics also has the purpose of creating overloads on one section of the pitch. But last night it literally looked like we were playing with 12 men.

Pep's tactics are fascinating, he has somehow liberated our midfield and given it the freedom it needed to really thrive. We seriously could of scored 10 last night and I felt embarassed when we attacked because we looked like scoring every single time. We managed to miss 2 penalties and a ton of other chances yet still won 5-0.....It was like playing Fifa against someone who has never played before.

Other teams have to think now can they afford to play a high pressing game against us because they will always get outnumbered in midfield and any mistakes risk leaving a 4v4, 5v5 against people like Aguero and KDB. I have been surprised really with Pep because I always thought he was more conservative defensively but now it seems his tactics and setup ARE our defence. It seems to be a case now of attack us if you dare.

It's amazing how an opinion on a team can change so quickly.
Before the game and right at the start of it, steaua were no pushovers, had settled into the season having played 6 games and we should watch out for their star man.
By the end of the game, they're labelled as shit and a pub team.

For me one of the best things about last night was Pep's post match comment saying the he will not have Otamendi going to ground again. Halleluiah!!! Less than one game and Pep nails it!!

The thing I learned watching what Pep did at Barcelona, it had little to do with the opposition - watch what your team does and no one will be able to outplay you. This was his mantra, it's about what the team does irrespective of the other team.

There will be hurdles & growing pains but you got a taste of what to expect going forward, which also means it won't matter if it's Steau lining up or Arsenal et al

We didn't get any mention on the press bit, they decided to concentrate on the negative stuff like the Hart situation. If the Rags had turned it on in Europe like that they would be waxing superlatives left right and centre. Maybe we need to put in a perfomance against the future FIFA world club champions Afc Bournemouth before we are taken seriously.

That's the irritating thing - if the rags had done the same against the same opposition there would be two page spreads about it for days on end. We saw how much coverage they got for winning friendlies, let alone against the might of Bournemouth.

If the media had not engaged in a season long campaign against Sterling particularly in the Euros lead up, fuelling the booing from the brain dead England fans in other clubs, England might have done far better with Sterling playing as well as he can without his confidence being destroyed.

FcBarca, have you been posting on ragcafe and been getting some abuse?
Have the smacked arses banned you yet?
