Stefan Savic

Surprise surprise, Cahill was a Marwood brainstorm (it seems)! I get the feeling Marwood would have City playing an all-English 11 if he got his way.

But he was not entirely comfortable in either game – Ashley Young gave him a difficult time in the 0-0 draw at Wembley on 12 October – and he is a more natural centre-back. City see him as more of a player for the future than an immediate first-choice centre-half, though Mancini does seem far more enthusiastic about him than securing Cahill at twice the price, despite football administrator Brian Marwood's conviction that the Bolton defender would be an asset.
was there any doubt it he would be a marwood signing?!??! lol

So you think Vertonghan would have replaced Lescott or Kolo?

I think the lad would have been 4th to start with and maybe work his way up.

not sure how much kolo features in mancinis plans... if its how it seems then the pecking order could be looking like this if we get both-
kompany
lescott/Vertonghen
kolo/onuoha(possibly)
boyata/Savic

kolo to be shipped out and boyata out on loan out of that list.... top set of defenders if we could pull it off!

From what I know Savic looks like a replacement for Boateng (right footed plays either right side of CB or right sided fullback. Therefore, I think Vertoghen will come as well as he is left footed

Tbh...you dont have to be left footed to play on the left side of the centre-backs. It might help but if you are comfortable with both feet it's not a problem.

He could become a starter alongside Kompany. Dunno if he is ready yet....

City boss set for double swoop
Manchester City, 08:55, June 29, 2011
Roberto Mancini is reportedly set to swoop for Partizan Belgrade defender Stefan Savic and Santos' Brazilian starlet Neymar.

The Manchester City chief is looking to make moves for some of his top summer targets and, with Arsenal looking likely to win the race for Bolton's Gary Cahill, it appears that he has switched his sights to a cheaper alternative in the guise of 20-year-old Savic.
City are thought to be plotting a £6million swoop for the Montenegrin defender, who is valued at £9million by Partizan Belgrade as that is the release clause in his contract.
Partizan want as much money as possible because they have to pay half of any incoming fee to Savic's former club BSK Borsa, while they will also tell City they must wait until after their two-legged Champions League qualifier against FK Skendija late next month before he can move to Eastlands.
That could pose another problem because if Savic plays for Partizan in Europe and they qualify for the group stages of the Champions League then he would be ineligible to feature for City until the knockout phase next year due to UEFA regulations.
Meanwhile, City, Premier League rivals Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala have all had £40million bids accepted for Neymar, according to Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro.
Therefore, it could come down to a straight fight between the five clubs to persuade Neymar to join them with City possessing the greatest financial muscle.
