Stephen Ireland Unhappy With Contract Progression.

Bizzbo, your dead right Irelands contract stall is all Hughes's fault, Just like people starving in the third world is his fault too.

Get a grip man.

oh god almighty, you lot, learn to differentiate. must remember not to post around closing time.

yeah, it's all his fault, just like all the flack coming hughes' way is my fault.

I clarified in my second comment that i hoped Stevie had Hughes' full support. There is a world of difference between saying that and saying that Hughes is solely, or even mainly responsible for the negotiations, which i never thought for a minute. But he DID mention them in public before Stevie made these comments. So, regardless of anything else, he has MADE it his business. If he really didnt want to get involved, didnt want any coverage, he should have said something more non-committal, but, intentionally or otherwise, he gave the press a story. One that, as it transpires, doesnt tally with the player's take on things. . At best it looks a bit like MH has opened his mouth before engaging his brain, at worst it does look a tad cynical. That's all i'm saying. You talk about these things, you make them public issues. Dont talk about them and you wont get into any shit

I have tried to offer an insight into this situation and I shall try again for those hard of hearing (not aimed at you Stony).

First and foremost just to clear this up once and for all this has absolutely FUCK ALL to do with Willie Mckay.

Secondly the situation as it stands is that there is no confirmed offer of any agreement between club and player as yet. There have been talks held recently and as far back as the turn of the year and there has been lots of false promises of more meetings to take this forward. The situation only a couple of weeks ago after further talks was that a deal wasn't too far away in the making or so the player thought.

The situation changed.

The club went public when the manager said a deal was imminent.

The player has held his own court for long enough and has always publicly supported the club and the manager and that situation will remain so. I'll repeat what I've said elsewhere that he wants to hang his boots up here for the rest of his career, he wants to achieve so much that he is talked about in the same manner of Colin Bell. He will come back next season stronger and fitter than this one and feels his overall contribution to the season is well below what he expects of himself. He promised me that he does things in training that he is yet to bring to the game and that will change next season. He is as desperate for this club to be successful as I myself am and no doubt every other Blue reading this is.

He is and always will be prepared to give up his time for the fans, tomorrow it's his young son's first birthday, at the moment he is with family back in Ireland and Steve had originally planned to fly home and share the special day with them all, but due to his commitment to City and attending the player of the year awards he will miss this occasion with his son. I have been in his company socialising in his own private time when fans are hanging off his shoulders talking to him about City but never does he try to get away and ignore anyone, he gives everyone time to talk, have a photo or an autograph and he is only too pleased to do it.

Last night at the Sportsmens dinner there was memorablia auctioned off from the 69 cup final and it went for good money, the only present day item was a Stephen Ireland signed shirt that went for over double the amount of everything else at £775.00. I don't know if Steve gave the shirt himself or the club but one of the old boys speaking fondly of Steve did say that under Sven we had access to the current players unlike now where we're kept at a distance. Somehow I find that quite sad.

Do I think Steve will leave City...not for one minute because ultimately I think the club know the value of his worth and will hopefully see the disparity between some of the higher earners and also the fact that the player himself isn't actually asking for the world.

Thanks for that mate, it warms the cockles to think that there are still players who want to achieve things for the fans and not just themselves. I think Stevie is on his way to becoming something very special here and I hope that the club and MH see sense and offer him what he is worth and do it quickly.
You can't buy what SI has to offer, the love for a club and it's fans and the desire to do well for them. Put that together with his natural ability and his willingness to work and we have one of those rare players that become synonymous with a club. He has it in him to be our Gerard or Giggs or even our Le tiss.
Sort it out City FFS.

what a complete load of bollocks. the manager doesnt get involved in the contractual matters of his playing staff? that's a COACH. which we know Mark Hughes does not see himself as.
Some people just can't stop digging,or yo're a WUM then respect is due you got me.

your right mate no manager does the contract he just says he wants to keep him. How can hughes sit down and say your on 60 grand a week now? Its not even his fucking money lol. So bizzbo talking out of his arse

it's not Cook's money, it's not Marwoods money. what difference does that make?

The chairman is the one in charge of the funds though. Bacon face will tevez is the same he thinks the deal is close but ultimatly he doesnt know.

Stephen Ireland Foundation donated the shirt last night (personally signed by Superman) and Stephen isn't leaving Manchester City, Oh! and his agent is not Willy McKay :)

you're taking it to extremes. you think if fergie really wanted tevez he wouldnt be able to do it, even if it meant selling someone else? you think that these things arent worked out between the manager, directors and chairman? the chairman doesnt sit in an office all on his own and decide this stuff for himself. just as well, in fact, as our chairman is rarely in the country.

He's got 2 years left hasn't he? So why is all this kicking off now. I could understand him trying to negotiate a new deal with 1 year left but 2 years is a long time. Ok, he's had a brilliant season but last season he was piss poor and many, including me, would have been glad to see the back of him. Whilst I'm not saying we shouldn't reward him with a better deal, it seems that these contracts are meaningless in the world of pro football.

If it was up to me I'd give Stevie a contract commensurate with his performances this season - he's been our best player this season so he should have the best deal. But only once his current contract expires and only if his performances are as consistent as this season.

I'll see you in the concourse before the game for a pint and a chat on Sunday Mike, I think you may feel differently afterwards.

Bissbo - although my post is around leaving time I a can assure you I have just got back form playing 5-a-side so my reasoning is not alcohol related.

I am sick and tired of people having an agenda against Hughe thats all

I know what your saying, i just think managers say the deal is close to put other clubs off sniffing. Then when stevie comes out and says its no were near all the press pounce. I am confident he will sign and Marwood as you call him did a very good interview today was chuffed.
