Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Didn't that report widely believed to be from his camp say that Real were scouting him against Spain?

If he's now pulled out, I guess that could be good news.

I don’t have the time or inclination to discuss all the ways I think you are mistaken, but a quick synopsis might suffice.

He definitely has the option to hold out, as does every player, which begs the question why every player does not just run down their contract, take a big pay check from the next mug club to come along and mint it?

If he wants to play in England (which is the only league in the world where his lack of technical ability allows at this level), and wants to make £10M+ per year, just from playing and before endorsements, and play for a team where the manager picked him up off the floor and is helping turn him into a player, and where he will win trophies every year or so while challenging for the very best trophies in the world, then he will sign. If not, good luck to him...he will need it!

He has a very special situation at City. He should recognize it.
That is your view and your welcome to it. The inly issue I have is that it sounds eerily like the same nonsense Liverpool fans were saying about Sterling when it was clear he wanted to leave. Walker, Stones and just about every player we have managed to pluck from rival domestic teams have had to endure the same tired trope from their fans and the media, passive denigration about their ability, met with a dogmatic belief that it is only their club and their club alone who can take a sterling, stones, walker, lescott or delph up to the next level if they stay. The only suprise I have about your post is that you haven't added the much travelled cliche that" he ll only move to Madrid to sit on the bench", that's if united don't have a sniff. Im not gonna go into the detail about what youve written because I'm not convinced you even believe most of what you've written there. The only answer I will give you as that most elite players don't have to resort to running down there contract because inevitably the club always pays. Sanchez is perhaps the first in recent years where an elite player has come onto the market having deliberately running down his contract. After him you will struggle to find one because of the elite your Ronaldo, Messi etc . The club always pays or sells with the player picking up a nice juicy signing in fee to reflect the reduced transfer fee the club has signed him for. Ex Sanchez.

Good post, think if he recognises all of those factors he will sign.

Elite? Passive denigration?

1) I don’t think he is elite, but I do think he had a good season last season in Pep’s set up.
2) My denigration isn’t passive. I think he is technically suspect, and I think his ability in front of goal is poor for the level I am told he is at almost every day of the week.

He will do what he wants, which is as it should be. However, the CLUB comes first. Just as with Milner, I wont slag him off for running down his contract, but I will if he badmouths the club and the fans if/when he leaves.

Slowly and with much coaching. Every diamond starts as a lump of coal!

No...

A footballer is like water and finds his level. Sterling has found his , playing as a regular in the best team ever seen in England.
At least we have a top level coach who recognizes that, even if Hoddle, the Sun and some faraway fans do not.

Your right not quite elite but if he came on the market for even 100 mill, given today's ludicrous market most top teams would see that as cheap and would be biting City's arm off for the sale.

Passive denigration, belittle, disprage, minimize, trivialise take your pick. It amounts to the same thing which all fans do when a key player may sound like he has the option of a move. Yet despite these apparent deficiencies in the players game curiously all to a man or woman argue for why the same player should or needs to stay. Doesn't stack up. Sterling could be criticized for his finishing but his overall technical ability isn't one of his weaknesses. You simply don't get into a pep side unless your technically excellent. Pep certainly does not pick you to occupy in the same game 4 or 5 diffrent positions to destabilise the other team unless your technical excellent. So like Ive said there are possibly areas in his game which need to improve but his technique doesn't fall into that category, particularly not when confusingly your trying to justify why Sterling isn't that good but equally in previous posts advanced reasons why he needs to stay.
