Sterling and the hate he gets

Only Sterling can not be the one to miss a penalty in a penalty shootout but still be the villain. Only Sterling can win a penalty that is confirmed after a VAR review to get his country to a first final in 55 years and still the general consensus be that it was not a penalty at all.

How he copes is beyond me, it's fucking exhausted me just to watch it happen to him.
Well said mate. I will hold my hands up, he fucking infuriates me but I also love him in our team.I know.some of his play will always divide opinion but I would rather have Raheem in our team. The shite he gets I hope he channels it for his own personal gains , and while I have shouted and screamed and nearly threw my beer at the tv he has given us tonnes more times to sing and celebrate. Keep your chin up Raheem and let's fucking destroy the league this season.

Yeah but those that do go to the fifth penalty means you absolutely have to score.... no pressure there then, and the England should have been sensible enough to have seen that.

Kane should have said to Sakai, you go first because if you miss, I'll be right behind you to compensate, the pressure on any fifth penalty taker will always be massive and the greatest.
Surely saka not done much practice? I’m glad sterling didn’t take 1 his scoring rate with them is low

Since the 2018 world cup they've kept a league table of who is best at penalties from every single practice and match the England squad plays. We know that for certain. It's been reported they based last nights list of 5 on that league table.

I expect what happened is Saka got picked because he was high up the league table among the squad. You can see in the video going round, Southgate is dithering on the last taker, probably because he didn't want to pick such a young kid, but in the end as is very typical for this England side, they trusted the numbers.

5th is the best place to put him also. A lot of shootouts don't get to the 10th penalty.

So right that last sentence, how many teams put their regular or number 1 penalty taker last?

Happened last night with Jorginho.

Baffles me.

I have a different opinion, I think he should take the last one, because that’s more than likely a pressure penalty
4th could just have easily been the pressure penalty and 1st is another pressure pen. You need you're best takers in 1, 2, 3 because they are guaranteed to take them.

You need a good one first, you need a good start. Can’t rely on them taking the 5th, it might not even go to 5 penalties and you’ve wasted your best taker.

I mean, the media are the media but that first paragraph was hardly a ringing endorsement or defence of the lad was it.
It sums up his performances for us over the past 18 months. He's had a good Euro's but a poor season and a half for us.
