Sterling - The Sun

Read this guys tweet. He isn't a blue he's completely neutral as far as I know. I don't know a lot about him but he appears to write for four fou two and this was his take on the front page:

It would explain the seemingly unprovoked and bizarre attack on the guy on the front page of the sun, who by all accounts seems a decent bloke

The 'follow up' article is another classical diversionary practice at papers like the Sun. I remember about 3 years ago when they had this fad of turning up at airports, waiting for a footballer to open his suitcase for whatever reason, and then zeroing in on the contents with a zoom lens before broadcasting them to the world. Jesus Navas was the first to suffer this gross invasion of privacy as he rummaged for his passport at check-in, with the Daily Fail then taking great, and sneering, delight in itemising the contents for its readership by cost. Designer headphones - £800, monogrammed Egyptian cotton towel - £70, imported trainers - £150, etc etc. In other words, look at the ghastly, spoilt, overpaid, football ruining, Manchester City vulgarian.
Needless to say, the comments sections was filled with angry City fans sounding off, so lo and behold a week later (in order to 'prove' they weren't specifically singling out City players for this treatment - which they fucking well were) the paper did the same thing to David Moyes, only this time only one item was apprised. Yup, a strategically placed (by the Fail itself no doubt - with Moyes cooperation) copy of Taggart's autobiography, which of course enabled them to run a pre-prepared 'master and apprentice' styled article. They really all are utter fucking cunts

I don't read newspapers but follow a lot of journalists on Twitter and there seems to have been a turnaround in how the majority are talking about Sterling since the Suns hatchet job. Pretty much to a man they seem to be condemning his treatment.
Unsurprisingly the Custis cunts are staying quiet..
That might actually be the club working behind the scenes. It would certainly fit in with how they operate. Everything low key and battles fought via proxy.

Did someone mention there might be a pattern to the players being bullied by The Sun...?
The young player of the year going on holiday after a hard season. What a bastard!

As for a pattern......hmm, no, can't think of anything. Both left a small club to better themselves?

Meanwhile, the Star's running a story about how Harry Kane has vowed to work hard to improve England.

Galling I know but they are trying to either find the bad in City players or the good in players more acceptable to their readership.

They know little about football just writing stories that suit the ones likely to buy their opinions.

Definite misnomer to call it news.
Definite mistake to expect them to run a story that would cause their circulation to drop. In fact it would be likely to be a sacking offence.

Have a few days off now Chris Evans will be the new raheem for the next few days,no doubt we will have people saying its about his hair colour or something !

Fucking hell, the EU referendum hysteria hits the Sterling thread.

The Sun are just trying to curry favour with Liverpool fans, and the best way to do that is hit the player they hate more than anyone else.

Fucking hell, Rashford must be shitting himself, because if he doesn't score plenty next season all the racists will be after him next.

Racism my fucking arse. I suppose if you look for something you'll find it.

Got nothing to add to what I wrote in the article but stand by every word. I believe there is an underlying racism to the Sterling abuse in the tabloids and beyond.

I really don't get the suggestion that the Scum are trying to curry favour with Liverpool fans at all. Seen it elsewhere in this thread too.

If their intention is to do this they would have put out a sincere apology about their Hillsborough front page (instead of the half-arsed snidey one that only made matters significantly worse) or at least covered the recent inquest ruling like the rest of the media. And they wouldn't have Kelvin McKenzie as a columnist.

They know Liverpool is done with them for good.

Agree on both points you make. Murdoch's output oozes underlying racism around the globe. Aimed at reductionist target audiences. Very dangerous. Trump is a big win for the strategy.

I fucking hate Murdoch, I really do.

You would think after the tweets raheem and his family were receiving then they would take a more lenient outlook, one could actually say that their methods are the reason behind the original threats, would that not make the scribes partly responsible and culpable to actual charges, now that is something I would love to see, one or many of the cowards in court for guilt by association [emoji3]

they should be in court for the photo with the drugs story. Andy Johnson got damages in 2005 for a similar unrelated linkage. And what does it matter if it's not the Sun's football writers behind it? Ban the paper not the individuals and say they'll only get back in if the coverage improves.

Like many young players, talented but still learning, he is often thrilling to watch and sometimes abject and frustrating. He certainly has done nothing to deserve this vitriol, then who has?

I hope the City fans get behind him next season, maybe it will get the boo boys off his back.

There maybe a racial element involved but there must be a lot more to it as there are plenty of other black players around. The Liverpool angle plays a part, they aren't going to apologise as some suggested, they don't do contrition . It would appear him being a City fan is no coincidence. It's a perfect storm for lazy tabloid hacks.

I can imagine the conversation,

England were an embarrassment again, we need a scapegoat and plaster it all over the back pages to whip up a hate campaign. Any candidates?
What about Sterling?
Is he black?
Yes
Does he play at a Sky 4 team?
No, even better he plays for Manchester City, and they have ruined football.
Was he ripped away from a Sky 4 team whom he loved and supported and played for as a kid.
Err well he is actually a QPR lad but he did spend a few years at Liverpool.
Good enough, have we any embarrassing pictures of him spit roasting a teenage girl?
Err no but we have one of a swanky sink.
Brilliant! Let's run with it.

I thought that might be happening, and it does fit the m.o.

I suspect the real journalists like sticking one on the Sun, but I suspect several think it went way too far.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't. Much better tactic than waging open war with the country's biggest propaganda machine.

But don't forget before the Euro's Hoddle was calling for Sterling to be left out of the squad.
Hoddle rarely misses an opportunity to have a sly dig at us.

Agree but I was actually of a similar opinion that Sterling on form was fortunate to be in the squad and even more fortunate to be starting. For me taking a player who lets face it was badly out of form in the last 3/4 months was really hanging him out to dry. He was almost doomed to be poor before he kicked a ball.

I feel for the lad but it is sometimes a case of ramming insults down critics throats. He is in charge of this part of his destiny and if he benefits from a good coach for once then we may see a different player.

That's what my thoughts were on it and my blame lay at Hodgsons door for starting him as he was on a hiding to nothing unless he was incredible. From what I have seen and read of Pep this will be his best chance to really develop and it will be like a new signing if he does.

Bang on
Felt the same
For whatever the reason the simple fact was he was playing awful leading up to the end the season ( yes he was awful ) and shouldn't have been near the England squad
