Still Get a Lump in the Throat 10 Years On.

Wonderful and very emotional afternoon. After four years in the wilderness we returned. I was in the top tier of the Jack Walker Stand with hundreds of other blues keeping quiet until Blackburn went one up and nobody jumped up! We then realised we had completely taken over that end of the stand.

Brilliant.

"Gods own football club"
Dont believe it ?
0-2 down in the play off final against Gillingham,120 seconds left on the clock
something changed God smiled, enough is enough, years of pain and misery were wiped away.
Blackburn away, how we were not dead and buried at half time ?
What a day, ended up on the pitch to boot.
A season of madness driven as Sky said it was almost a crusade. We drove the club onward from the depths of the old third division. Without our belief the spirit we have as a club would have faded and died but it grew stronger and stronger in darker and darker times for the club.
The backbone of this wonderfull football club were there that day at Blackburn,we were on the hill, shouting through the gates and all over the ground.
Gods own football club is now poised to conquer Europe,we will walk in fields of gold.
The fan's of this football club deserve nothing less.

I only managed to get a ticket as a bloke I worked with knew someone in Blackburns ticket office..
I was on the lower tier behind the nets so got on the pitch easy enough, when everyone started leaving the pitch I was sat on an advertising board just taking the view in and a guy picked a £20 note up off the floor inches away from my feet, couldn't believe I missed it!
Everyone wanted souveniers and I remember a lad walking past with one of the furry tv microphones under his arm, all I managed to get was a "£20 notes not accepted" sign from the bar... ironically.

Brilliant to see that again!

However, the enduring thought for me, is how the difference our affections are for that version of City. It just seems so working class, the connection between team and fans.

Can you IMAGINE the team singing and mingling with our lot now?? Not a chance!

Thought it was brill watching a baby faced SWP singing with the lads in the changing room!

Brill vid, that!
Spot on - what I was going to say. Don't think I have ever seen City fans in the crowd belting out Bluemoon before. I am pretty damn sure I will never see it again either!

cheers, not seen them videos, just the very edited down short ones.

great memories.

fantastic post. you dont post as often as you should.

They were a team, weren't they? None of them even in their prime would make the bench today, except maybe Goater and Bishop, but what spirit they had. That great red & black kit too. Kennedy running 50 yards back to a delighted Joe Royle after his goal is one of my all-time best memories of watching City. Someone said afterwards he looked so smart he could have come from a wedding.
I'd flown in from Pennsylvania for the game, only landed that morning and drove up to Blackburn. Somehow ended up hours after the match eating steak pudding & chips on the sea front in Bispham watching the sun go down, with a big dent in the hired car and a plane to catch back home next morning.

Omg.

How many City fans were actually in Ewood park itself? The pitch invasion has them coming in from all ends of the stadium, that video is amazing.

I was an 11 year old kid at this time, not forgetting I live in Scotland and my family has no connections with City whatsoever, but I had a liking for City since watching the play off final the year before. I can remember this day vividly I came home and listened to the game on the radio. It was unbelievable.

Sir Joe Royle right enough, the guy is a legend.
Shaun Goater and Paul Dickov singing Blue Moon = Priceless.

CITY TILL I DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will always remember this game I went with my friends (4 ov us) we was in the bottom tier it was fantastic from leaving my house. I was only 16 1 ov my friends sold his ticket for £500 he couldn't believe he had been offered it. I couldn't believe he took it either. He watched the match in the pub with 100s of other fans who couldn't get in. I just remember being totally out played for 45mins it was mental every time they shot I thought of fuck there gunna score. Anyway when the game finished we ran on the pitch my mate who had sold his ticket was on the pitch they had opened the gate for all the fans sat on the hill. Think he saw it on tv and then ran to get there so not bad £500 for a ticket and still got in for the celebrations.

BRILLIANT NOT AS GOOD AS WEMBLEY THO :)
