Stoke Vs City Post match Discussion Thread

It was pretty poor , and shabby defending from City , for Stokes goal ... even allowing for the handball !

Horrendous use of substitutions today from Mancini.

Takes Tevez off the best player by far for Barry ffs and then gives Dzeko 3 minutes.

+1.

we were all scratching our heads.

I know what you are saying but I thought we were getting overrun in midfield in the first 20 minutes of 2nd half and the changes did stem that...I thought we played better after that too. Thought Tevez should have been the striker to stay on though.

It always hurts when you come so close to winning a game, but hey, I think it was important not to lose the match. Stoke away is a bogey games for us. Looks like Crouch handled before he scored.
Of the first 4 games, having Stoke and Liverpool away is a tough cookie. We are coming along nicely. Onwards and upwards.

Crouch handled not once but twice and the blind linesman totally ignored it!! I was right behind the goal, on the front row and it was the most blatant hand ball(s) ever!!

I enjoyed the match today, thought the substitutions were spot on and we were unlucky in the dying seconds when we could have had 2 more goals.

The new guys seem to be settling; Nasri, as always, ran his little socks off and even Balo was doing well, love the way Vinnie sped across the pitch in the second half when Balo was brought down. It was like ............ ok Mario, don't worry, keep calm, I'll sort it!! :-)

The speed on the wings was awesome at times and bodes well for the future. My MOTM was Clichy, that lad is so cool and he just gets on with the job in hand and is a great asset.
The linesman wasn't on the front row behind the goal though so will have had a completely different view to you. He might not have seen it at all.

He was in line with the first blatant hand ball. Maybe not the second one but the first one was when Crouch was facing his (linesman's) way. Granted he may not have seen the second one because Crouch by then had done a half turn and was facing us!!

Having just seen it again on French tv I've no fucking idea how handball wasn't given against Crouch. He must've handled it 3 times in the space of five seconds. Appalling decision.
Crap officiating in extremis.

We still should play to the whistle though and not just stopped and thrown hands up in the air.

I thought we played well the first half with more and better possession of the ball. The second half Stoke upped both their game and their intensity and had the better of us. For all the complaints about Stoke, they played harder than us today. We have much better and more skilled players, but they need to work their asses off if they expect to win. You can't just phone it in.

The Stoke stewards, security and police are the most miserable shower I have ever come across, here and abroad.

On my way out of the matches I always thank them as I walk by and at most grounds they say, ok, thank me back or wish me a safe journey.

This shower, even the car park attendants, had the longest faces and most miserable ever. You would have thought it was pouring with rain or freezing cold!! Not even a flicker of a smile apart from one policeman who happened to be standing on his own.

Arkward game out of the way, a pt on the board and still not played well in the 4 games, but still undefeated so always a good sign. I expect a different game next week against a team that will play the game on the floor and won't stick 10 behind the ball.
We made chances and as happened last season when we click we will batter some teams, already every club has dropped points and we are not out of Sept.

People keep saying this, but they stopped because Crouch had wrong-footed them all by handling it. The defence were completely taken out of the situation by it. There was no feasible way of getting to Crouch after he had guided it past them with his hand twice, so stopping and waiting for the rebound was about all they could do.

It's not like they stopped and then he ran past them. No he got past them and then they held their line and appealed.
