Stolen bank card/money gone *Now Sorted! pg 5*

Re: Stolen bank card/money gone

Was is a credit card or debit card? Different rules apply. This happened to me so I know about it. Mine was a credit card, someone nicked it and stole £300 out of the cash machine. God knows how they took the money out because they didn't know the pin. Anyway - the point is if it's a credit card you're only liable for the first £50, doesn't apply to debit cards though. You're bank will try and bat you away and tell you that you have been negligent and given someone your pin. This is standard procedure. You then need to complain very seriously to them being in breach of the law and you will report them to the ombudsman etc. Then you'll get your money back. Bit of an arse of a process but that's it.

Re: Stolen bank card/money gone

happened to me in Dublin.
used my card in a machine close to the tain station and the card was skimmed.
over the next 2 days they took 40euro mulitple times within the first hour. then 200euro the rest of the day, then on the 2nd day they emptied me completely, about 2000euro in total.
i contacted police and bank once i checked by online statement and could trace the exact machines the gypos were using.
i got ALL my money back from Nationwide after about a month
but as far as i know the gypos who done it are still at large as the case is officially 'still open'

Re: Stolen bank card/money gone

Not really of any help to the OP but in respect of the whole cash v cards argument going on.....

I am over in Sweden today for a couple days of work. I brought out plenty of cash to see me through only to find that every where wants cards not cash! non of the buses will accept cash only cards. Taxis do not want cash only cards.

Basically every where I have been to pay for goods has asked me for cards rather than cash, so I now have a load of bloody cash to convert back when I get home at a loss because of the rates.
Speaking to one of the guys helping me out, he says that when they all go for a night out no one takes any cash at all, everything is on card no matter how small the amount.
Asking around, there does not seem to be such an issue of skimming or banks being cleared as it is the norm to use cards. Maybe it's us that are in the stone age still using cash..

Re: Stolen bank card/money gone

I know the banks offer you extra protection against skimming if you have a few thousand in your current account, but do you have to pay for this service and how much is it? I'm just going off what one of the local bank staff tried to talk me into just before Christmas (she claimed 'skimming' was more prevalent over the Christmas period).
And what exactly is the protection?

Re: Stolen bank card/money gone *Now Sorted!

I got all my money refunded into my account this afternoon, so the people scaremongering saying im not getting it back can lick my balls!
I spoke to the police about it, gave a statement and apparantly this kind of thing is happening more and more in the nothern quarter so watch your cards people. That was the first and last time i have ever used my card on a night out, i just need have enough money on me in future!
To the person who asked, it was a debit card. I was suprised how quick the money was refunded because of the amount, maybe its just HSBC

Did they hint at the staff of the bar you were in , Ive been warned about using cards in petrol stations around Manchester they caught a few gangs skimming cards round our way at the Esso,Total,Texaco and a couple in Chorlton . Seems there are new staff in all of them ,yet I never read a crime report for it anywhere. Nice one by the way , learned my lesson after a dipper on Market St tried to have me over years ago Town is a magnet for mongs
