What was the ticket situation outside? How much were they going for?

In town outside Sinclairs some one wanted £80 each.

Thinking of leaving it until just before the Roses go on. At Oasis the touts had loads left and they were going for about 20 quid. Just wanted to know if it is a similar situation

My point is, you should be able to take what you want to a gig like that. No wonder there's aggro at the on site bars if everyone is striving for a few beers, waiting an hour for the privilege.

I totally agree but the organisers of these gigs don't allow it because they're obsessed with ripping punters off and would sooner have you pay extortionate prices for the pints of gnat's piss they serve up. Not to mention waiting ages to queue up. Waiting times of 1-2 hours as someone said is nothing short of a disgrace and ties in with my own experiences of large open air concerts - chronic shortage of bars but no shortage of food stalls. You'd think they'd get the balance right every once in a while. It happens at festivals too - you're allowed to take alcohol into the campsites but not the arena itself. Glastonbury is the exception I believe where they allow you to take your own beer into the arena itself.

Why the food stalls cannot sell plastic bottled beer is beyond me

went on friday and i got what I expected
I knew it would be a twat to get to and from the park
I knew it work be shite to get a beer
I knew Ian Brown would be out of tune
I knew Heaton park isnt a great venue with the wind wirling around
I still enjoyed it though
but I do feel if it was at the g mex or men arena it would have been immense as the sound was really hampered by the wind

yeah, we heard fuck all towards the back tbh.....only when i moved down near the entrance/food bars that i heard the sound better

Went yesterday, started off drinking in lamars in town, decided to stay in there rather than going to other pubs. As it wasn't too busy and off the beaten track, so not too many people on to it. Tried to get a taxi to the gig near bar wave, a mini bus pulled up and said he'd take the six of us. Once in he said it would be 70 quid, he got told to get to fuck in no uncertain terms. Finally got a black cab, and he was a sound guy, he was disgusted when we told him about the mini bus. When we got there who pulled up behind us. One of the lads said "there's the twat" black cab driver got out and give him a right feckin bollocking haha. 11 quid in the black cab. When I got in my first port of call was to get shuttle bus tickets for me and my missus(she's 7 months pregnant) so got those and stood left of the stage. Where there was plenty of room and near the toilets for the lady. Didn't even try getting a beer till the roses came on, walked up and served straight away. I thought the gig itself was awesome, and and we had a brilliant time, Felt like I was fifteen again haha. No problems getting home, we were near exit 5, and straight onto the shuttle bus, was in town for 11.30. All in all a class day, that I'll never forget. Feeling a bit fragile today though.

cos the promoters and sponsors have total control of beer sales to maximise their profits.

It would seem they fail miserably on the maximising profit score, over an hour to get a drink, astounding but par for the course at these big venues.

I've been to a few foreign festivals and they all have done the following.

Let you walk in.
Point you to the ticket booth.
Let you buy "beer" tickets. One ticket, One beer.

All very simple. Then you wander up to a bar, tickets in hand, ask for 4 beers, hand over 4 tickets and the beer dispenser system like the one in Mary D's kicks in. Beer(s) in hand, wander off.

Never once waited more than a minute.

Or was the expectation that they would be fucking rank enough to drive everyone to the bar?

Its not par for the course at all I went to Madness at Victoria park in London 3 years ago 75000 people they had 3 massive beers stalls which you queued up in lanes the longest we waiting for a beer was 5 mins
