Stop fracking

Can't see anything wrong with it myself.

Oil fracking has been taking place in the Kent/Sussex Weald for the last 20 years or so without anyone noticing, and if it brings lower energy prices and a huge economic boost to the North West, then let fracking commence.

Fracking in the US has led to a greater reduction in carbon emissions than all the wind turbines and solar panels across the entire globe put together. This is the stark fact presented at a meeting at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg last week.

Nothing more to add really.

There's no article there?

It's a link to a blog that was last updated in 2012?

I actually looked up that quote. It wasn't given by the Council of Europe in an official report, it was spoken at a meeting by the CEO of a fracking company and is almost certainly wrong.

It was there a month ago when I posted it. Looks like its been taken off that website. In fact everything from the last 2 years has disappeared off that blog.

Here's the article on another website

I could buy that it's reduced CO₂ equivalent emmisions, gas is way cleaner than coal, not that its reduced actual carbon emissions. An Oil and Gas CEO isn't a great source though.

There's a difference between carbon dioxide equivalent and carbon dioxide emmisons.

Just seen this (people power in action?):

Amazing news -- Lancashire just said no to fracking!

In a resounding move that will send shockwaves through the fossil fuel industry, Lancashire councillors voted overwhelmingly against fracking firm Cuadrilla's plans to drill for shale gas.

This is a huge victory for people power. Fracking would be bad news for Lancashire because it could contaminate water and pollute the air. And it would be bad news for all of us, because burning more fossil fuels like shale gas could lead to catastrophic climate change. It's a win that will be felt far beyond Lancashire's borders.

Strange how they didn't mind bringing millions of tons of coal to the surface, and profiting from its distribution and use around the UK, and even revel in their industrial heritage. Now they (or rather a small number of vocal activists) who have something against cracking have prevented this from proceeding. If the activists had been around when coal was king, many towns in the region would not even have made it onto the map.
