Stoppage time

The time keeping is made up every game. Usually it's 1 minute in the first half and 4 minutes in the second half. It doesn't matter how many goals or subs take place.

Yet when Bellamy equalised in that infamous swamp Derby we had time added on in stoppage time due to us "over celebrating" and we were told by the commentary team 30 seconds per sub, when have you ever seen additional time added like that since?

There's a guy up here Tam Cowan, BBC Scotland, summed up stoppage time perfectly. He was talking about a game where Rangers where down 1.0. Somebody asked, how much injury time do you think there will be.

Probably three minutes, or more until Rangers score.

And why is it that, at the end of a game when time is up, the final whistle is only blown when the team in possession has either got in a shot, a cross or lost the ball, when the phase of pay is over to use a rugby term? Surely, if time is up, then time is up...pisses me off.

We had a match a few weeks ago (can't remember who it was against) when 2 mins were added on at the end. Including all the subs & goals in the 2nd half at 30 seconds each it should have worked out at 7 mins. Didn't matter to us at the time as we were winning but it's another example of officials making it up as they go along (to quote Graeme Souness).
Another thing I've noticed is how often in CL games only 1 minute is added at HT (no matter what) & quite often the whistle is blown before said minute is up.

There used to be a provision for specifically extending a half to allow the penalty to be taken and no more.
City played Spurs in the early 60s and a pen was awarded late in the first half. Bert.saved the pen and the follow up was not allowed as time was stopped at the moment Bert saved it.
So City were the first team to take a point from the all conquering Spurs.
The ref was correct and had balls - unlike modern refs.

They have to stick to the TV schedules?

Possibly, seeing as how TV rules the roost nowadays. Particularly with the CL HT whistle scenario. I don't see it being the case in the PL as there is usually plenty of time to play with when the pundits are on at FT.
I think it's more likely that they haven't a clue most of the time. The reason why we don't have any refs at the WC.
