Storm Babet

Not really no, but if you’re looking for evidence of climate change, don’t look at individual storms even.

I think Scotland has a lot of rain coming tonight.

But given what happened in Cork last night, it’s not the ferocity of the wind or even that there was such a downpour that a month’s rain fell in a day.

The summer months over here were consistently well over a hundred % wetter than average.
Before last nights rainfall bringing October figures close to 250% the previous three month average was around 200%.

The ground is already saturated. There’s nowhere for the water to go.
June was a lovely month, at least in Mayo. Since then, though; the weather has been disappointing. A typical Irish summer, I suppose.

Saw a few videos of areas in Cork one with cars submerged absolutely brutal..

@mancity2012_eamo you have said you ‘think Scotland has a lot of rain coming tonight’
From the messages I’m receiving from my family and friends across Scotland it has already arrived plus a lot of wind!!
They are concerned and have battened down the hatches so to speak.
I hope everyone stays safe. They have already had one death there tonight. RIP to that lady and condolences to her friends and family.

Saw the BBC weather forecast.
They were expecting record rain in the highlands I believe.

I spent 10 days in Mayo around 20 years ago in June. The first four days were stunning with the most amazing sunsets. After that it started to rain and continued for 6 solid days.

Going to have to go back soon!

The Highlands, Shetland, Forfar, Arbroath, Furbar and Aberdeen that I know of are already suffering, and I quote from a friend, ‘it’s really bad EB torrential rain and horrible winds’. That’s from Forfar
From Aberdeen I had a similar text with a video of the sea which looked as if it was snow rather than waves. White horses were not just horses but high and coming over the steps etc. (the video was by a Press and Journal reporter and sent to me by my niece)
The lifeboat from Shetland has been launched to help a stricken Danish fishing vessel about 60 miles out.

Sounds bad. I used to be into diving and as Diving Officer I took a big interest in weather and low pressure systems around the coast.

I think the torrential rain is due to the fact that the low pressure is boxed in by high pressure further north in Scandinavia.
Two lows merging and buckets of rain.

The Scandinavians have always been cunts like that.
