Strike on 30th June

where more people earn around the same

some organisations for example have far too many grades ,harmonise the pay structure more. I'd slice a bit off the top and add it to the botom

complex stuff working out what a £100,000 pa wage to pay in tax

30% with an untaxed £15,000?

That's less than they pay now.

This Goverment is bringing in a 10k no tax band which should be applauded.

The public sector is run on grades , maybe they should overhaul it......

Some of the grades could easily be amalgamated with little problems, but one of the biggest problems in the Public Sector is the incremental pay scales, where many many staff are now on the bottom rung of their pay band after 7 or 8 years in their current job, could you imagine a qualified joiner accepting the same wage as a first year apprentice?

The people at the top of any organisation should earn no more than ten times than the lowest paid worker in that organisation.

Are you suggesting that just because you have worked somewhere for a few years you should get paid more , whist still doing the same job?

-- Wed Jun 22, 2011 5:39 pm --

Do you really believe that? If so, how can you stomach the thought of supporting a football club who pays its top players 10 times as much in one week as some of its workers get paid in a year?

Just the opposite, there should be a training rate and the rate of pay for the job. To have people with 8 years service in a job being paid the bottom of the scale is a disgrace.

I'm not sure whether your thinking is based on the philosophy of Karl Marx, or, more likely, Groucho. The simple laws of supply and demand and natural progression seem to be alien, somehow.
Good chat though, do crack on.
