Good to know you don't count the Sun as having any journalists :)
Pmsl.
Anyway sorry if I caused any offence Wireblue, my point was more that more fan involvement in the paper would make a lot of people who are unhappy now feel that bit happier and no-one could accuse our bloggers of being biased against the club.
I think the abuse is more too do with being a public avatar of an organisation, look at the police and politicians.

No it's fine mate I think it's an interesting debate.
The poster above mentions the sun - fair enough what they did was despicable - but you can't use that as a barometer for an entire profession.
Also you mention police and politicians - they are paid for by taxpayers - people like stuart work for a business. I think that's at the heart of this really. People feel they have some kind of ownership over newspapers and have a say on how they should be run - certainly local newspapers - when in fact they don't.
If the MEN decided to print zero city stuff and have a special pull out on united every day they could do - obviously they wouldn't but you see my point.
I can only go from my own experience of working on a newspaper in a two-club town and we get shit from both sides about being biased.
Certainly guest bloggers is a great idea but what I think would also be a great idea is for someone from bluemoon to spend a few days at the MEN with stuart to see just how difficult the job is, how skilled the journalists working there are and also how much they care about the newspaper.
Because to be fair I don't think people have any idea of what goes on at a newspaper.

Well Dr. Mick does.

Allegedly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Ok then you walk in and ask a chef from the restaurant next door to cook the food instead. Point still stands.
But as you say journalists do have thick skin and I'm sure stuart can fight his own battles.
It is interesting though the perception people have of journalists. They are seen as scummy and fair game to be shot at - possibly due to the behaviour of a few.
I'm a journalist myself and the way a lot of people speak to you is incredible. They talk to you in a way they would never dream of speaking to someone else. The abuse you get - with absolutely no justification - is mind blowing at times. You wouldn't walk into a shop and call someone a f*cking c*nt and expect to get away with it. But for some reason you do if it's a journalist. But you get used to it in the end and it's water off a duck's back.
99% of journalists are decent people carrying out a vital role in our society.
Anyway off my soapbox!

Why the fuck would you want more 'fan involvement' in the paper?
The text and comments section, not only in the MEN but every other daily paper, are full of illiterate plastics trying to out-fan each other.
I prefer my match reports to be done by a pro who can string more than two words together, has more of an insight into the club than me and doesn't use 'comedy' names for teams.

I wasn't suggesting giving the illiterates a soapbox, I was suggesting getting some of the city fans who already write quality articles about the club and team to do maybe 1 article a week.

I think you've inadvertently hit upon a good point here.

The MUEN is supposed to be our local paper. SB is supposed to be a full time City journalist. Is there any particular reason why he doesnt use the terms "rags" or "Wet Spam" or "Chavski" or "Neverton", in his match report, like all the other proper blues?

I'll tell you why. Coz he's a rag twat who works for a rag paper. Can't wait till it closes down.
