Did Defoe get banned when he bit Mascherano in the Premier League? I genuinely don't remember. Or was he ok because he's English?

He was booked so the FA couldn't take retrospective action. That was the same season Thatcher got retrospectively banned after being booked. But that was classed as "exceptional". Yeah, they've changed that rule now in response to stupid shit like that. That's probably true! I would like to hear Defoe's thoughts on Suarez and his psyche. I just looked at the old BBC article regarding Defoe's bite. Martin Jol described it as "comical". I thought it was classed as exceptional because of the extent of the injury to Mendes.
You can't really compare Defoe and Suarez though. Defoe did it in retaliation, a heat of the moment thing, and more of a nibble than anything. The footage is inconclusive too, which is why I suspect the FA took the easy route. I think he did it, and it's a disgusting thing to do but in no way comparable to Suarez.
Suarez proper sunk his ghashers in on all three occasions.
