Suella Braverman - sacked as Home Secretary (p394)

So when a conservative, does a conservative thing, they get flinged out. Makes me laugh when people opine how right wing of a government they are.

She was "flinged out" for defying cabinet responsibility by publishing an opinion piece she had been specifically told not to.

I'm not sure that defying your own leadership and colleagues is "conservative", but these are strange times indeed, so perhaps I've missed something.

Funny, I used to work in the same organisation as a woman who wore a niqab. Not only did she talk to me, she actually hugged me on one occasion as a sign of friendship. (I must admit I was taken aback, but that was my prejudice)

Well over 90% of Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Atheists just want to live their lives in peace, enjoy their hobbies and their families, celebrate their festivals, fall in love, marry, have kids and die in their beds.

It's always the minority of extremists and bigots who are the problem. The people who want everyone to be exactly like them, think like them, whatever. I know it's more challenging to live in a mixed society than one where everyone is C of E and white, but that's what we have. We either make it work or we have endless conflict and hatred.

Even if we were all white and CoE we’d still find a reason to have a group or groups we blamed for our lot or abused. Probably something of our equivalent to not being of aryan descent.

Electioneering.

Therein lies the reason Remain lost. Trotting out bollocks like “pet obsession” and “blinkered”.
"We will be able to stop illegal immigration "
"We can control our own fishing rules"
"We can manufacture to our own regulations"
Plus many more including the biggest of them all "we will have more money to spend on our NHS"
All these and more were focused on pet obsessions and voters who had no desire to look further than the front page of the Daily Mail.

If you look at some of the vitriol on the tory threads in this section you can't honestly say that the right wing need an enemy, the left fling their shit high wide and handsome too. Some of the misogyny is quite Frankly frightening.

If anyone has been on the back of the Jews it has been the left wing (Not all) not the right wing in general, there are some posters on this site who have had trouble containing themselves but slip about their beliefs every now and then.

My point about Brexit is that if the remain camp stopped calling people names remain would have won, not very bright ehh?

I don’t think it was just about calling people names, I don’t know anyone that voted for Brexit because they were perceived to be stupid. If they did, that’d just prove the point anyway though!

It was more that the political sides dominated the debate and the Brexit side of it had a significantly better campaign with that. Not only did Cameron himself fail to inspire, Corbyn was awful too and the messaging any of them did was awful for the consumption needed in a referendum.

Gove’s statement of “having had enough of experts” was very powerful too. That led to vast watches of experts across multiple areas who did make completely reasonable and rational points effectively discounted by many or just not heard at all, despite them being the people that deserved a platform far more than the politicians.

Aside from Vote Leaves campaign working, I don’t think any of it should be considered bright though. Bringing the referendum in the first place, not having a media that could stay objective and be focussed on informing throughout, voting in the people responsible for leaving to govern us and allowing them to completely run roughshod over our parliamentary processes and standards, none of it has a good.

As a collective electorate, we all deserve to be called stupid tbh. That people see that as an insult that needs placating rather than accepting it is a prime example of why we’re not mature enough to be run by referendums tbh. That and the loss of empathy across the board is also how we end up with politicians like Braverman as Home Secretary too.
