suicide

I like you as poster mate, depression is a strange thing, I've lost a few mates, all odd. One hung himself with his dog lead, with the dog sat under the tree. If you can't handle life it's a way out.

Explain to me why I'm naive?. If a person has mental disorders or shows signs of irrational or emotional behaviour, would this not be noticed by close family members/friends? Nobody outright just 'tops' themselves without giving any signs whether they're sane or suffering from severe anxiety. Again, if they understood the emotional stress they'd cause to close family members or friends, they'd give it a second thought or even seek help.

But surely they are not in a balanced frame of mind and therefore not thinking as rationally as normal.

Probably, but does this behaviour go completely un-noticed?

Right bluemoon, I'm going to kill myself. Nice knowing you all.

Ignorant twat.

first person I knew who committed suicide was diagnosed as a schizophrenic, and got progressively worse as time went on - he was only 19 I think when he topped himself - it was in one of his more lucid moments apparently, as he knew what his life was heading towards, so for him, it was a rational move.

On the other hand, if we live to be five hundred we could never know what suicides are really feeling like - if we did, then we might go down the same route - logic and rational thought are the last factors in most of these cases I would have thought.

Fortunately I don't have experience of anyone close doing this. I'd imagine there are usually signs of severe anxiety or depression but that's relatively common whereas suicide is rare. So the connection may not be made. Even if they seek help, it doesn't always work. The human mind is a complex thing.

a very good friend of mine hung himself on my birthday two years ago, never saw it coming he liked a drink like most of us had a few issuse with his mrs at the the time but nothing what i thought was major had a beautiful little girl just a real bolt out of the blue, even though he was a rag he was a diamond geezer and i miss him very much rip dunc, must of been in a real dark place for him to done what he did or why others do too, maybe im mentally stronger to handle certain situations or problems than what he was but my heart goes out to anyone who has suffered a loss in this way because its awful to deal with and understand, personally i dont see it as a selfish act that somebody no longer feels that they can live on this earth any longer just a shame that none of us could see it happening to help or prevent it

Whilst I know you mean no harm with that comment I think it is a little naive.

I agree

Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, its no different that having any other disease, its hard to understand how these people must feel and I sympathise with them hugely, quite a few famous people have suffered, you'd think success and money and fame would make someone very happy but if you have this particular illness it doesnt just go away.

It is not a selfish act,in the dark moments you do not consider anyone else because you have a chemical imbalance that stops you from seeing any way out of the dark hole you are in.Some seem happy in the days before they die because they have made the decision and it free's them, others do it on the spur of the moment.Depression is something you cant explain unless you have been there, sadly some do not seek help and cant cope, they hide it well so those left behind need not feel guilty
