Summer Transfers

Anyone able to clarify where we stand from a HG perspective?

We will lose Hart and Cliche, potentially Delph as well - will we need 1/2 HG players for replacement?

I've always seen Telegraph, Guardian and Times as reliable sources. No? i think the journo is pretty credible as well.
None of the British press are reliable when it comes to transfer rumours, however the broadsheets' tranfer stories do seem to have more credibility to them than the red tops'

We can't have a squad with more than 17 over 21 non-homegrown players in our PL squad. No more than 25 players in all. So you have 8 free spaces for homegrown players. You don't HAVE to have ANY homegrown players in the squad you could have 17 foreigners and a few u21s (who don't need to be registered).
Roberts, Mooy and Denayer are possibilities for home grown players next year. Bertrand, Pickford, Berchiche, Rose, Alli, Walker and Ben Gibson have all been linked as well.

If we buy Isco, the 4, Isco, Debryune, Silva and Gundogan become the 4 man rotation for 3 spots. They all can play all 3 positions. With Garcia as the 5th CM who plays every cup game guaranteed and some League games during crowded schedules..

Dihno I believe falls back into the defense line and likely replaces Kompany as the 4 CB and emergency RB or Left back. He'll also get some games at CM in crunches (injuries, heavy schedule etc).

Those are the 6 midfielders for next season in my opinion. With Dihno being a defender who now Cameos as a midfielder. And we'll be better off for it.

Don't disagree with any of that at all.

Still think we need a top class centre halve as neither Kolarov or Otto are good enough long term......and thats ignoring the Kompany situation as well

Fullbacks are an absolute must as well

Isco would be the icing on the cake though and I think he is still pretty young as well

The last few years weve gone with our 17 plus 4 homegrown and no club trained and really no u21 that would be expecting to play. No reason why next season we cant have 17 plus just 2 homegrown but make up the squad with club trained / u21 players like Iheanacho, Maffeo, Roberts, Gunn.

Going a whole season with basically 17 players though? Seems unlikely.

Can you suggest 2 left sided CBs that have been better than Kolarov this year? He and Ota have been quite good. And Stones looks better the lo her he starts.

I doubt very much the club shares their transfer targets with any member of the press.
Most speculation is probably generated by agents, some true some false. I suspect some of the red tops are prepared to fly more agent stories than some of the broadsheets, but neither are particularly reliable.

No, 17 plus Stones , Sterling , Iheanacho, Maffeo, Garcia, possibly Roberts and Gunn so 22 / 24, more than the 21 we have been managing with the last few years in c/l. We may buy another homegrown but we don't have to.

Totally agree. Only long term CB we have is Stones and he's raw and needs the right partner. Otto can be good but he's prone to moments of madness and errors (although Stones makes errors too but you'd hope we can coach them out of him). We need two top notch centre backs who can play with Stones and give us the option to play 3 at the back on occasions. Some big decisions this summer on Otto, Kolorov and Kompany and I wouldn't count on any of them being here in October.

we've been linked with ben gibson recently. i think he'd be a really good signing. no nonsense defender, good on the ball swell. if not a first team player he would be a good squad player. not every player we sign has to be 50m.

Replacements? The only names I ever hear are VVD and Laporte. I can already picture the drama on here now with a back three of Stones, VVD, and Laporte getting shredded and us spending 130m for the three!

I think if we go to 3 at the back, we already have the 3 in Stones, Kola and Ota. I really don't think we need another defender unless someone leaves. The most likely being Kompany retiring. In That scenario, then sure. The other 3 are pretty save unless a juicy bid comes in for Kola or Ota.

I expect all 3 to be here in October.

Isco will be 25 in April, so yep, good enough and young enough!!

Everton and Liverpool both eyeing Pickford per the Sunderland Echo. Looks a very promising young keeper that I'd have at City.

Only Nacho and Garcia will be eligible for u21 status in the CL so those numbers might need rechecked.

My apologies, but still that leaves 5x foreign spots.. Wouldn't be surprised to see Yaya sign an extension though and possibly either Zabaleta or Sagna..

Telegraph reporting Pep wants to sign a core of English players in the summer, Pickford, Rose, Walker and Wilshire are his top targets even though he says English players are expensive, "i believe a home core is essential in any team" he says
