Summer Transfers

another poster upstairs makes a good point about our need to always spend big money ( 100m or 200m) every summer to solve our solutions. i think long term spending that much can't be the answer or changing nearly half the team, we need to start promoting youth or the manager needs to adapt to the players we have. we need to buy players this summer, but after that i think pep and city need to stop spending as much. just my opinion though and you could argue we have to spend 100m to compete...

I completely agree, but our recruitment has been so horrendous in the last 4/5 years that we need another big summer.

Bravo should have solved the goalkeeper issue, but we still need another goalkeeper.

£120 million on three centre backs (Stones, Mangala and Otamendi) should have absolutely nailed that position down, yet Kolarov had been our best centre back this season.

We haven't signed a full back under 25 for years and we're now in the position where all four full backs are over 30.

Fernandinho, Fernando and Delph were signed and we're still short on at least two centre midfielders.

Naval and Nolito have arrived, a back-up winger to Sane & Sterling is still required.

That's not even starting on the likes of Nastasic, Savic, Rodwell and Bony.

It's frightening how much money we've wasted since the title win in 2012. Absolutely frightening.

Barca and Real for example spend big cash every season despite having really good squads. No chance after next summer City will stop spending, because others will not either.

Even Bayern too spend some money as well, despite being stacked in every position.

im not saying we should stop spending. we have to keep buying players especially if they are top quality, but we seem to be relying on it so much. i just dont think long term its a good solution. perhaps we should be looking at spending money more wisely, for example looking at cheaper alternatives that we can grow into world class players like we did with kompany. changing 6 or 7 players in the first team i can't see beign good for us either. this summer we probably need to though tbf.

absolutley mate we've wasted a lot of money recently especially at the back.

i think we need a minimum of at least two centre halves - Kolarov is not good enough long term and needs to be got rid of (he has outstayed his welcome for me) and neither is Ottomendi in certain aspects of his play...then there is the problem of Kompany's fitness - so minimum two are needed.

Fullbacks - we need at least one starting fullback on each side......the only one i would retain is zabba (and only as a back up)

A goal keeper is an absolute must. Bravo is shocking and Willy out of contract......Both should be out the door but Bravo first

If Yaya leaves we have a huge gulf to fill and i think we should be doing this anyway EVEN if he stays as neither fernando or delph are good enough and should be sold.

I dont think we need anyone upfront at all....unless Kelechi goes, then we could bring in another youngster (or promote from he youth team?)

Out the door should be navas as well

God knows what will happen to Nolito as he clearly isn't floating Pep's boat at present (possibly also due sot the success of Sane as well)

If we go into next season with that CB pairing I'm gonna shoot somebody.
well everyone to his opinion but I'm sincerely much more concerned about what's before and around them. Lots of people clamouring for Bonucci but forget that over the years Juve's defensive strengths have been largely down to midfield marshalls that take a helluva shit leaving the CBs to deal the remnant

So now that tedious transfer window is closed we can focus on our real targets for the summer. I know it's early and some of you will moan but I need my speculation fix haha. I'm expecting 2/3 full backs, a keeper, a centre half, a midfielder and possibly another attacker depending on if Aguero leaves. Here's a list of realistic targets who I can see being brought in;
Full Backs - Henrichs, Bernat or Grimaldo
Keeper - Rui Patricio or Pickford (with us bringing back Rulli when his clause can be activated)
Centre Half - Laporte or Van Dijk
Midfielder - Koke or Weigl
Attacker - Aubamayang or Sanchez

Thoughts blues? Who can you see us targeting?
Keeper - Pickford (Has proved he is decent in a dreadful team)
Fullbacks - Bellerin and Bertrand - Both needed as all out full backs are past it
Midfielder - Koke or Kroos
Attacker - Aubameyang but would rather have Sergio but don't think Pep will keep him

Absolutely agree with everything you've written there. The shocking thing is, almost all of us fans could have identified better players than those we actually bought, and it's been obvious for a couple of seasons that the full backs aren't getting any better. Makes you wonder what the point of our scouts is.

I think that's a great point. I bet if we had David Luiz and Cahill, they'd look shit with no protection. We need a Kante type player, not everyone in the team can be expected to ping 40 yard passes and dribble at pace, we're a team, or meant to be, where at least one guy should be able to tackle and cut out the opponents passes and through balls.

There must be a high energy, high quality defensive midfielder available from somewhere? I don't see much European football now, are there any in Germany, Spain, Italy, etc we could buy in summer?
