When I look back to April, so much positivity, spending big money to get the players we needed to challenge once again, plus younger ones for the future.
Now we are down to a “relegated” CB who cannot head, a young winger who is unproven, and we struggle to sign our major target because we think he is too expensive.
Havertz was described as a generational talent we must have, now it is we have Phil.
How times have changed..... Seriously, with Ake, Koulibaly and Torres, ca we really challenge once again ?

Pep hinting at 4/5 new players so I’ll take a punt

Ake
Koulibaly
F Torres
Striker
maybe a CM

I think you have a point. To me Timo Werner was the nearest player to Sane and a fantastic player in his own right and priced more than fairly but Chelsea snapped him up. I struggle with that one.

We seem to have a policy of going for younger players we can improve who don’t cost the earth. I agree with that in general but it’s not since KDB that we have really bought a WOW player who has all the attributes required to play straight away.

While the system is more important than individual players as Pep has shown, sometimes we just lack a player than can do it all on his own. Tevez and Yaya had that and I’d like to see a couple of those types...a bit of trouble perhaps but mercurial.

This summer has to be about signings with the quality of Laporte/KDB signings and not the Cancelo, Rodri, Mendy type of signings who are all good players but nowhere near had the effect of Laporte/KDB.

Torres and Ake wont change around this team much with sitting on the bench 80% of their time. Torres could take over Sane's playing time which was zero in this season. So maybe he will push Sterling and Mahrez on the bench? Unlikely.

If we can get them very cheap to be benchwarmers thats OK but 2-3 signings are needed hat will refresh the squad and players of City will sit up and say oh wow this player will improve us on the pitch and we need to raise our game as well.
If we got Mbappe Sterling and Jesus and Mahrez would fucking sit up and realize where they are and they need to raise their game. They wont really care if Torres is joining to be benchwarmer and play some League Cup games.

If Pep does not trust Stones and Otamendi its ok to change them but Ake is certainly not way above them in any way. Maybe he can be more consistent, less erratic, more focused but that we only will see when he is put under immense pressure by playing so high up the pitch.

Put Stones or Otamendi into a defence that does get lots of support from defensive midfield (Wolves for example) and we would be all over them to sign them and then they would be like they are here currently.
